** INCOMING SIGNIFICANT PENNSYLVANIA HEAT WAVE **
While the temperatures will be high, it is the humidity that will be the driving factor of this upcoming heat wave. High temperatures in the 90s to lower 100s combined with dew points in the upper 60s to mid 70s will allow for maximum heat index values to rise into the 100s, up to as high as 110 for some areas, making those without A/C and cooling methods at high risk (especially the young and old). If you are at risk for heat illness, it is crucial to take this upcoming heat very seriously.
AREA A: Extreme long-duration heat expected with no to little overnight relief. Maximum heat index values will rise to between 106°F and 110°F all three afternoons. Overnight low temperatures may only drop to the mid-70s, and in some cases, the low-80s, especially in highly urbanized regions.
AREA B: Long-duration heat expected with minimal overnight relief. Maximum heat index values will rise to between 102°F and 106°F all three afternoons. Overnight temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 70s.
AREA C: Abnormal long-duration heat expected. Maximum heat index values will rise to between 98°F and 102°F all three afternoons, with localized spots up to 104°F. Overnight temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 70s.
AREA D: While escaping the 'worst' of the heat, these areas will be quite hot as well. Maximum heat index values will rise to between 95°F and 98°F all three afternoons, with localized spots up to 100°F. Overnight temperatures will be in the low 70s.
⚠️➡️Now is the time to prepare for the upcoming heat and humidity. Make sure your AC is ready, check on vulnerable neighbors, and take normal heat precautions. If you don’t have air conditioning, look into local cooling centers or other places to stay cool during the hottest parts of the day (shopping centers). Overnight relief will be limited, with warm and humid conditions continuing. Increased power demand is possible, so having a backup plan is always a good idea in the case of a power outage.
