BCU clinches another top 10 ranking for social mobility work 👏
BCU is one of the best universities in England for improving the earning potential of graduates from lower income households, according to a new report.
Published by the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI), the English Social Mobility Index has ranked BCU eighth – the third straight year the University has featured in the top 10.
Celebrating BCU’s impact, Vice-Chancellor Professor David Mba said: "University should be a transformative experience for everyone, regardless of their background.
“Our mission, which we have reinforced in our new strategy launched last month and which aligns with the Government’s aspirations for higher education, is to create an environment where students from all walks of life can thrive and achieve their full potential.
“By ensuring that every student has the education, the training, and the support they need to succeed, we can break down the barriers that have historically held back talent and opportunity.”
The Social Mobility Index is compiled by London South Bank University and was first published in 2021.
It assesses multiple factors to gauge the ‘social distance’ travelled by socio-economically disadvantaged graduates who attend higher education institutions in England, including access to education, the continuation of study and career outcomes for graduates.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Having four of our region’s universities ranked in the UK’s top 10 for social mobility highlights their role in creating opportunities and transforming young lives.”
