Less than three weeks after UNC Chapel Hill campus went into lockdown after an active shooter shot and killed a professor, they're sheltering in place again.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE OUR NORMAL!
NORTH CAROLINA STUDENTS: We’re walking out of school because we’re fed up with being the “school shooting generation.” We deserve better than hiding under our desks, running from bullets, and fearing for our lives in school. We demand better.

Seattle desperately needs more cops. But it's the police's own union that’s emerged as the biggest political impediment. Bigger than the dysfunctional City Council, writes columnist Danny Westneat. https://t.co/YzovtabUKS
"First, I was outraged with the police department, and quickly it turned to concern for the family. To have somebody talk about your child like that? Your family member."

The officer was traveling at 74 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone while responding to an emergency call when the cruiser struck the woman. https://t.co/uiYByw96gT
A police watchdog agency is investigating Seattle police guild leaders over body-camera audio in which they joke about and downplay the death of a woman fatally struck by a cruiser. https://t.co/Z6Qec9dxPG
NEW: A Tennessee 4-year-old was shot to death over the weekend by a 25-year-old woman who claims she was teaching the girl “firearm safety.” Police say Evangeline Gunter was shot point-blank in the chest. https://t.co/FIpvtzJqnL
White supremacist speaker @CSexton25 violently shoved me today while I held my “Protect Kids, Not Guns!” sign. I’m infuriated by his actions but more infuriated by the INACTION of @tnhousegop to pass a SINGLE bill to prevent gun violence. This is how democracy dies. We must rise!
TENNESSEANS: Right now, gun lobby allies in the Tennessee House are attempting to push through legislation that will endanger students and staff by arming teachers.
There is no evidence that arming teachers makes school safer. In fact, research shows that arming teachers puts students and staff at greater risk of gun violence.
Tell your Tennessee rep to keep guns out of Tennessee schools. Text TENNESSEE to 644-33 to be connected. #TNLeg #TNSpecialSession
UPDATE FROM #TNSpecialSession:
Ignoring pleas from survivors, families, @momsdemand & @studentsdemand volunteers and gun safety advocates, @GinoBulso & #TNLeg House Civil Justice Committee advance arming teachers bill. Even school admin won't be able to stop retired military/ law enforcement from carrying on school grounds & activities.
“But let’s be clear: Guns don’t belong in the classroom. That is not the solution to our gun violence epidemic. If more guns in more places made us safer, we’d be safe already – and we’re not.” -@StudentsDemand volunteer Iman speaking truth to power at #TNLeg#TNSpecialSession
This is one of the reasons why I keep track of homicides, because if you read this @KING5Seattle article it says Seattle’s only had 35 homicides this year. They’re missing 12 deaths!! https://t.co/sjeVNR5nnH
Despite House Republicans having our volunteers and other gun safety activists removed from a committee hearing yesterday, our Tennessee volunteers are back at the statehouse for the third day of a #TNSpecialSession on public safety.
We will be a constant presence until lawmakers take meaningful action to prevent gun violence in our schools and communities. Count on it. #TNLeg
On the second day of the #TNSpecialSession, lawmakers ignored calls from their constituents to strengthen gun safety laws and, instead, advanced a bill to arm teachers—a measure that would endanger staff and students.
We won’t be ignored. Moms and students will keep showing up until our lawmakers take MEANINGFUL action to prevent gun violence in our schools and communities. And if they don’t, we will replace them with those who will. #TNLeg
AGAIN: A six-year-old child was unintentionally shot and killed by a nine-year-old child after they gained access to an unsecured gun in a Jacksonville, Florida home. https://t.co/dDeIDSJkCF
