A lot of students worked really hard to push for changes like these, and some of us eventually rage-quit the fight, at different levels. It's so so heartening to see that we made such an impact on a program that wields so much influence over the music theory field at-large.

The Eastman music theory department just announced some serious revisions to the PhD core curriculum. I feel so proud of myself and my (former) fellow students who pushed for the changes!! There are few feelings better than watching your painstaking efforts outlast you.

All students will have to take an analysis course each on common-practice music (meaning like tonal classical), 20th- & 21st-century concert music, vernacular music (meaning like pop or folk styles), and non-Western music.
