BEYOND THE RAIN! 🌧️ Behdeinkhlam festival
Behdeinkhlam is an ancient and very popular religious festival of the Jaintia community in Meghalaya (similar to the Khasi and Garo tribes, the Jaintias also follow a matriarchal system).l
This festival is celebrated every year during the monsoon season (around July), especially in Jowai town.
Behdeinkhlam means "Beh" = to drive away. "Dein" = wood/log. "Khlam" = plague or disease
The main purpose of this festival is to drive away evil spirits, diseases, calamities, and bad omens, and to pray for peace and prosperity in society.
