Recommendation algorithms may no longer be needed.
A question that has lingered in my mind for a long time is whether recommendation algorithms will still dominate content and entertainment products in the AI era.
My current answer is: recommendation algorithms may no longer be needed.
In the era of #generativeAI, the biggest change in content, entertainment, and games compared to the era of recommendation algorithms may be that everything is generated in real-time according to the user's needs, rather than recommending and matching pre-created content. This could be the biggest paradigm shift.
In the classical era, content creation and consumption were live, whether it was education, music, or stage plays (today’s videos, variety shows, and TV dramas). Since humans invented printing, phonographs, movies, television, and the internet, content and entertainment have moved into an asynchronous era. Recommendation algorithms are essentially an evolution of search, shifting from people seeking information to information seeking people. But when content consumption and generation can happen synchronously (in real-time), we no longer need the ubiquitous recommendation algorithms of today.
Furthermore, content itself is the greatest form of companionship aside from human relationships. We have always believed that characters are just one part of companionship. Music, movies, videos, novels, games, and so on, provide us with companionship that far exceeds human-to-human companionship.
This is why we @OriginX_AI firmly believe that an AI-native content and (interactive) entertainment platform is something worth exploring. The core is to explore how new technological capabilities will change the way people create and interact with content and (interactive) entertainment.
