@mjstallman @HonorAndDaring Don Q was for a class that was like independent study that only required the reading and discussing with an instructor to assess comprehension, but I read a few novels that semester. Senior year was the real slog, including Crime&Punishment, Madame Bovary, and Mill on the Floss.

@mjstallman @HonorAndDaring I read EVERY one of the books on page 2 in junior and senior high school (in the same era indicated) - normal US schools in an average US town. Imagine reading those classics with Zeppelin, Allman Bros., Stones, Skynyrd, Frampton et al playing in the background.

The issue isn’t that the universities won’t admit to being progressive seminaries. (Does anyone not realize what they are?) It’s not a consumer disclosure issue. The real problem is substantive: progressivism is bad, it has injected poison into the body politic for decades, and universities should be ordered to the good, the true and the beautiful.
