We asked our members at the #BritishCouncil to do some ‘back of the envelope’ calculations about their *real* wage once unpaid admin & prep is taken into account. The numbers are pretty shocking, with teachers alleging rates below minimum wage.

A year since the BBC programme 'Abandoned in Afghanistan' was broadcast, the message is still very poignant, as many Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers remain stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. A very worthwhile listen @RishiSunak@EwartBiggs@paulkenyonTV@Katewest0

Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers enabled learners all across Afghanistan. Sadly, when the Taliban took power we left our teachers behind. Over 2 years later, 20+ remain in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25 stuck in hotels in Pakistan. @RishiSunak please fix. #AtRiskTeachers
Here's the @BritishCouncil pledge for supporting displaced teachers. It refers to "well-being needs, recognising & addressing trauma..."
Over 100 Afghan BC teachers were wrongly left behind when the Taliban took power. Many are still stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰 - they need support from BC.
Great to see @BritishCouncil is keen to support displaced teachers from various countries... no mention of Afghan teachers though!
What support will BC provide for Afghan teachers a) arriving in the UK b) stuck in Pakistan c) hiding in Afghansitan?
#AtRiskTeachers@EwartBiggs
Many Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers and families are still waiting in Pakistan and in hiding. They are still are severe risk for the work they did teaching English and UK values. #AtRiskTeachers@David_Cameron https://t.co/VUECpA7n2J
While some @BritishCouncil teachers have at last been relocated to 🇬🇧, many more remain stuck in hiding in Afghanistan or in hotels in Pakistan. They've been waiting for well over 2 years now. @GOVUK needs to finish the job & get the teachers to safety @FCDOGovUK#AtRiskTeachers
While its great to hear that some Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers are now safely in 🇬🇧, others remain in hiding in 🇦🇫, or stuck in hotels in 🇵🇰. 'Shabana' has been hiding with her 3 children for well over 2 years now. It's time to get her to safety. @RishiSunak#AtRiskTeachers
Free from fear! After over 2 years stuck in hiding in Afghanistan, or waiting in a hotel in Pakistan, 'Ali' is at last safe in the UK, & able to get on with the rest of his life. It's been a long road to safety for the former @BritishCouncil teacher. #AtRiskTeachers
Good to see @GOVUK will once again be reminded of their responsibilities to Afghans who assisted the UK-effort in Afghanistan. Hopefully Baroness Smith can remind @GOVUK of the plight of #BritishCouncil teachers stuck in Pakistan & Afghanistan. #AtRiskTeachers@RishiSunak
#BritishCouncil teachers in Afghanistan believed in what they were doing and proud to contribute to the development of their country particularly enabling #womenandgirls through English classes and skills development. They are waiting for a home and future in UK. #AtRiskTeachers
#BritishCouncil teachers taught UK-values, including 'Equality, Diversity & Inclusion' across Afghanistan, at great personal risk. They remain in hiding in 🇦🇫 or stuck in hotels in 🇵🇰. It's now over 2 years since we abandoned them. @RishiSunak please fix. #EDI#AtRiskTeachers
On next Tuesday’s @TTRadioOfficial Late Show, I will be talking to Joe Seaton (@AtRiskTeachers). Joe has spent the last two years advocating for British Council trained #teachers who’ve been abandoned in Pakistan & Afghanistan. #TTRadio#eduX

#BritishCouncil teachers taught students across Afghanistan, at great personal risk. These teachers have been suffering, hiding & waiting in limbo for over 2 years. @RishiSunak, when will @GOVUK make good on promises to relocate them to safety? #AtRiskTeachers@David_Cameron
"Britain has a proud history of giving sanctuary to those in fear of their lives" says @BorisJohnson. Has he forgotten the eligible #BritishCouncil Afghan teachers left in Afg and Pakistan since 2021? Over 60 families promised sanctuary and still waiting.👇 #AtRiskTeachers
#BritishCouncil teachers enabled learners across Afghanistan. @GOVUK left them in great danger when we abandoned them. 2+ years later they still live in hiding in Afghanistan, or remain stuck in limbo in hotels in Pakistan. @RishiSunak please fix.
@David_Cameron#AtRiskTeachers
It is now 2 years that we receive promises. We did our best to promote British values through British Council programs but in return were left in limbo. This is not what we excepted from UK government. @McDonaldScott_@SuellaBraverman@FCDOGovUK@JamesCleverly
Crucial point made by @AtRiskTeachers. The teachers were in public facing roles in the classroom not an office which made them at even more risk as everyone in their local communities knew they worked for the #BritishCouncil. Why were they excluded from #ARAP? #AtRiskTeachers
