The Hadiya Case: A Journey of Faith & Freedom.🕌🤍

Akhila Ashokan, a student from Kerala, embraced Islam and became known as Hadiya while studying BHMS in Salem, Tamil Nadu.

She later married Shafin Jahan. Her father challenged the marriage in court, raising concerns about her conversion and the circumstances of the marriage.

In May 2017, the Kerala High Court annulled the marriage. But on 8 March 2018, India’s Supreme Court overturned that decision, affirming Hadiya’s autonomy as an adult to make her own choices about faith and marriage.

Her story became a landmark case concerning religious freedom, personal liberty and the right to choose one’s life partner.
