@BoneKnightmare Cell phones dont work out there. It is a declared federal wilderness ... only com is ship to shore that is why Nolan did not have a phone. Every boat out there had a VHF radio where anyone on board could have set the radio for channel 6 and contacted coast guard
ALL the boats I've seen at Horn Island have long tall white VHF antennas that use ship-to-shore radios for bay communications. Channel 6 is US coast guard (monitored 24x7x365) for reporting emergencies. There is no reliable cell coverage when you are out at sea in this area.
@MandyKennerly@nypost Horn Island is a Federal Wilderness Area. There are no cell towers! Only reliable communications is ship-to-shore boat radios Channel 6. Always monitored by US Coast Guard for emergencies. That is why he did not have his phone on him.
@SaveJxn If you see some one down the beach it’s questional you can phone them. There are no cell phone towers out there you would need civilization out in that wilderness!! If you have a Marine radio on your boat you can contact a channel which will get you to the Coast Guard
@SaveJxn Keep in mind Hook Island MS is 10 miles offshore. That means scant , if any , cell phone service, no fresh water, no bathrooms, no marinas, no dockage, no electricty! Can’t call mommy! You are on your own. It is a US Federal wilderness!
