Peter is working on a long-term project to index the Records of the Inland Revenue Valuation Office https://t.co/O22PL1jDIq. This will be a valuable resource for local and family historians once completed. #LocalHistoryMonth
"They're not asylum shoppers they're asylum seekers... That's not true."
@krishgm challenges immigration minister Robert Jenrick after he claims "asylum shoppers" should seek sanctuary in the first safe country they reach under the "Refugee Convention".
Overall a fascinating talk from Ralph Darlington - a deep-dive into one of the three major revolts faced by the pre-WW1 Liberal government (alongside the Suffragettes & Ireland). Would supplement any #teaching of the Suffragettes/pre-war&inter-war Britain. Get the book!
Which we see re #strikes today in tensions between TU leadership and members. Do the workers themselves have the networks to communicate & coordonate independently, if necessary taking action without the say-so of union leaders?
@musingsofadr Ha yes, quite. We could end up doing nothing if we are always looking for more granular research. Like your post says - at some point a decision has to be made that you feel has the best chance of delivering for your teachers and students
@musingsofadr Yes I see. The next bit to look at then would be the link between self concept and attainment, and whether there is variation between groups (eg LPA vs HPA). Negative self concept doesn't sound like a nice thing, but if they're learning more then perhaps it's a fair price to pay
@musingsofadr Nice piece - practical consideration of a complex topic. Thank you. Instinctively, I would say
1. Staffing practices are crucial. Too often lower sets are taught by the less experienced teachers; meaning
2. "bottom sets" already lead to negative social comparisons/self-concept
