@Hunt_Institute Director of State Engagement | North Carolinian | Speech-Language Pathologist | When it comes to education, all means all. Opinions are my own.
Here are the state and federal assistance programs opening up in the wake of the catastrophic storm and flooding in Western North Carolina, and what residents need to know to apply for it.

So lucky to have gotten to know @YolyAdams1 through her time as a Hunt State Policy Fellow and a member of the DRIVE Task Force! She's an incredible advocate for her communities and I've learned so much from her! #HSPFellows#NCed
After moving to Boone, @YolyAdams1 has become a leader in her community in a lot of ways, from being a family resource coordinator @WataugaSchools to a @LatinxEducation fellow. https://t.co/ncIRpnSotU
It’s been a great day at the @NCChamber Education and Workforce Conference. Conversations have been centered on our students - who they are, and what they need to be successful in learning, the workforce, and life. #WorkReadyNC
This tweet might be the most important one I’ve shared.
Because I often post about child development, I’m fielding a growing number of questions from parents and teachers about specific developmental concerns.
Here’s my very best advice:
First, if you have a concern about your child’s development, speak to your pediatrician ASAP. This is such an important relationship to establish and your doctor is the only one qualified to offer specific advice/diagnoses about your child.
Second, know that every state has a federally-funded early intervention system designed to support the needs of children ages birth-3 with disabilities and/or developmental delays.
If you have ANY concern at all about your child’s development, have them screened. It’s COMPLETELY FREE - and if they qualify for services, those will be free too.
Young children develop on their own unique timelines. And in most cases your concern won’t be warranted. But if a delay is identified, the faster you address it the better - and the greater the likelihood that professionals can intervene and get your child back on the right trajectory.
So don’t wait. And if your child doesn’t qualify but your concern persists, get screened again. And again.
See the tweet below for more information on how to access your state’s early intervention system.
And share this information with all the new parents you know.

@FridayInstitute@JasonReynolds83 Y'all, my speech-language pathologist heart feels this so much. "I'm trying to explain something to you that I don't have the language for. I'm trying to get whatever's inside of me outside so you can see I'm not just misbehaving." #NCLiteracyEquity22
"I just want to give us a little light... a little fire. To our educators, I want to tell you I'm so grateful for you. This job is still a job worth doing." - @jasonreynolds83#NCLiteracyEquity22
