I am afraid that the SCOTUS decision on AA will impact not just the educational system but the business models that provide opportunities to target systemic racism in the future. It will deter many from becoming our ancestor’s wildest dreams.
Not surprised by the Supreme Court’s overruling of Affirmative Action. It is heartbreaking to know that the same laws my ancestors fought for (Civil Rights Act and the 14th amendment) are being used to affirm white supremacy and deter black students from even applying to Harvard
Taking spots away from Asian and White students is an invalid and insulting argument, especially considering the fact that they are the majority. In regular sized classrooms, I still may be the only black student in my class at Harvard.
I am imploring on all electing officials and stakeholders within the education system to strategize, lean and pour into marginalized communities. We shouldn’t be depending on affinity spaces at Harvard or marginalized communities to create initiatives that propel students.
Our ancestors built institutions like Harvard off of their backs. Denying that their own don’t have a place in admissions is disgusting and disrespectful. It enables white supremacy and enables a cycle of systematic oppression and underrepresentation.
This decision will hurt low-income black communities the most. Education is not so much of a equalizer in providing opportunities if we aren’t afforded the opportunity to even apply let alone attend. A lot of public schools like mine don’t have ACT/SAT prep or IB classes.
This video is disgusting and does not represent Councilman Lewis’s character nor his views on this issue. Calling him a sell out when you all let someone stay in power for 17 years and propose this bill to be passed among the city council (before he was even elected) is crazy.
Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Lewis ran against Cop City. Now that he is elected and friends with the Mayor, he likes to see the police earn extra money and he is for it. Make it Make Sense #StopCopCity
@ofchambers@antoniolewisatl@kamaufranklin Councilman Lewis did not vote for this nor was he elected when this decision was made. The person that you all let stay in power for 17 years proposed this and did. The city council can not go back on this now that it has been voted for unfortunately.
Great way to end my break with our lovely Atlanta Board of Education Chairwoman! Thank you for mentoring me, believing and encouraging me to apply to Harvard two days before the deadline! @collinsforkids
i missed my APS family so y’all know i had to pop up and visit my favorite people working to better the futures of our students: the APS Student Advisory Council and the Equity and Social Justice Department!
