Thank you, Council Member Farah Louis for sponsoring Romanch’s Law, Intro 943! @FarahNLouis@CMFarahLouis
Your support strengthens the growing coalition working to protect horses, assist carriage workers in moving into safer employment with benefits and protections, and prevent another avoidable human fatality.
Free the horses. Help workers. Save lives.
We are sad to hear serious injuries resulted from a horse spooking and bolting in @CityCharleston today — we hope everyone recovers. This is another example of the deadly danger involved from forcing horse carriages into modern cities.
We hope Charleston officials will consider following the lead of many cities that have removed unsafe carriages to protect public safety and animal welfare. Horses are massively powerful 1000+ pound prey animals whose hardwired instinct is to bolt and run when frightened, this is a recipe for disaster on city streets.
In New York City, we had a tragic human fatality in June from a spooking incident, and we are moving forward in @NYCCouncil to shut it down thanks to action taken by @SpeakerMenin
@TWUNYS If your strongest argument against ending the carriage industry is that we need better retirement infrastructure for horses, then we're actually in agreement. The difference is that it's the sanctuary community who is building it.
