Under the leadership of UN Resident Coordinator @HowardUNPNG and the UN Country Team, @UNinPNG completed a 2-day media workshop for editorial staff in Papua New Guinea. Theme for the training was on "Verified Fact" as a means to combating mis/disinformation and hate speech.

This week, we had the honour of joining other UN agencies in #PapuaNewGuinea🇵🇬 in hosting a training titled “Verified Facts” for over 25 local journalists.

The 2-day training focused on issues such as #GenderResponsive journalism, #Disinformation, #HateSpeech & #DataLiteracy.

Moreover, UNDP Chief Technical Advisor on Anti-Corruption, Dr. @AlmaSedlar, delivered a presentation on the importance of investigative journalism and the role of journalists in investigating and exposing #corruption at different levels of society.

Since DoddFrank act in 2010, the US authorities recovered $4 bn dollars of dirty money, $1 bn being given to the #whistleblowers. The incentives for whistleblowers vary across the world but at least the US system shows that being honest may be more profitable than being corrupt.
