“I don’t know if I have the right to celebrate or not. My brothers and sisters are being killed in Gaza now.” This is how Abdel Rahman Sameh, the Egyptian champion who won gold at the World Cup in Swimming, spoke.
Although he is only expressing his feelings, he is not calling for anything, but he was punished by the International Swimming Federation by not publishing his picture or the news of his winning gold!
We're not talking about publishing his statements, in which he stated that he received death threats because of his support for Palestinian victims last week, which left his family unsafe and living in fear of a break-in in their home.
Is the life of a world champion so unimportant to FINA? What if the hero was Israeli and made this statement? Do you imagine that it would be blocked or that newspapers and channels around the world would cover it? You know the answer!
