A strong week for the global diamond industry in Gaborone.
Speaking at the World Federation of Diamond Bourses @wfdbtweets International Summit, DMCC's Executive Chairman and CEO @ahmedbinsulayem set out a clear message: confidence in natural diamonds must be actively built, not assumed.
Botswana’s journey continues to stand as one of the clearest examples of how natural resources can drive long-term economic development, national resilience, and shared prosperity. That story matters now more than ever.
At a time of softer demand and shifting market dynamics, the fundamentals remain strong. But the next phase of the industry will be defined by how we strengthen trust, modernise infrastructure, and build deeper, more connected ecosystems around the trade.
From provenance and traceability to finance, technology and regulation, the focus is clear: evolve the system while protecting what has always underpinned it. That is where the real opportunity lies.
Explore a premium showcase of rough diamonds at the Trans Atlantic Gem Sales (TAGS) Rough Diamond Tender from 25–29 May 2026 at Almas Tower, JLT, Dubai. Featuring a curated selection of rough diamonds across multiple size ranges, the tender will also include notable +10.8ct single stones.

The global economy is shifting from a fuel-intensive to a mineral-intensive system, where economic sovereignty now rests on the secure flow of critical materials.
This evolution requires more than logistics. It requires a fundamental structural change in how these markets are governed and connected.
Recognising this, DMCC is expanding its support for the critical minerals sector, building on its established expertise in gold and precious metals, and diamonds and precious stones.
As geographic concentration and export restrictions create new bottlenecks, the need for neutral, well-regulated trade infrastructure has never been more urgent.
Dubai is not just observing this transformation. It is building the trade infrastructure it requires.

During DMCC’s visit to #Mumbai this week, Executive Chairman and CEO @ahmedbinsulayem met with leading diamond industry representatives at the Bharat Diamond Bourse for a high-level exchange, joined by Neil Ventura, Special Advisor, Precious Stones, DMCC.
With UAE–India trade exceeding USD 100 billion in 2025, the visit reflected the depth of the economic relationship between the two countries, and the central role Mumbai and Dubai play in the global diamond trade.
The Bharat Diamond Bourse stands as one of the world’s largest diamond trading hubs, home to over 2,500 companies and forming the backbone of India’s diamond industry. Alongside the @DDE_by_DMCC, both are members of @WFDBTweets, and have grown together as key pillars of the global trade.
That connection is reflected in Dubai today, with a strong presence of Indian diamantaires operating out of Almas Tower at the heart of DMCC’s diamond ecosystem.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration across the diamonds and precious stones sector, and on how the Dubai Diamond Exchange continues to support Indian traders and manufacturers through world-class infrastructure, secure trading frameworks, and seamless access to global markets.
Every blood donation can help change, or even save a life.

Maryam Al Hashemi, Chair of the Kimberley Process Committee on Participation and Chairmanship (CPC), met with H.E. Ambassador @jaynetoroitich – Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Dubai, and Lawrence Lelei – Commercial Attaché at the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya in Dubai, to discuss continued collaboration and shared priorities in support of the Kimberley Process.
The meeting underscored the importance of international cooperation in promoting a responsible and transparent diamond trade, while highlighting the important joint role of the UAE and Kenya in supporting global industry dialogue.
DMCC's Executive Chairman and CEO, @ahmedbinsulayem, delivered the keynote speech at last week's Kimberley Process Engagement event in Paris organised by @ufbjop.
Alongside world-leading maisons, diamantaires, and leaders from across the luxury, jewellery and precious gems industry, he also took part in a panel discussion and engaged in high-level discussions with industry stakeholders, outlining how responsible sourcing has evolved beyond compliance to become central to brand value, market credibility and long-term consumer trust.
Reflecting on the UAE’s leadership of the Kimberley Process, he highlighted its role in reducing conflict diamonds to well below 1% of global trade and reaffirmed its continued importance in underpinning trust and stability across the sector. He also emphasised the need to advance ongoing efforts to modernise the definition of conflict diamonds in line with evolving global expectations.
Looking ahead, he set out key priorities for further modernisation, including the establishment of a permanent Secretariat in Botswana, the development of digital certification platforms such as Verifico, and the integration of advanced technologies, including AI, to strengthen verification, risk analysis and transparency across the natural diamond value chain.
DMCC's Executive Chairman and CEO, and the UAE's Custodian Chair of the Kimberley Process for 2025, @ahmedbinsulayem, addressed the United Nations General Assembly yesterday in New York, presenting the UAE's 2025 Custodian Chairmanship achievements under its 'Year of Best Practice' and introducing the UAE-led resolution, "The Role of Diamonds in Fuelling Conflict", which was co-sponsored by 50 countries and adopted by consensus. The resolution gives international recognition to key decisions and working group outcomes reached during the UAE's tenure in 2025, reinforcing the KP's ongoing mission to ensure global conflict-free diamond trade.
