Today, the National Digital Transformation Council convened its meeting to review progress, set priorities, and reinforce our commitment to building a digital Ethiopia that creates opportunity for every citizen.

The Council reviewed the implementation of this year's priority initiatives and provided strategic direction to accelerate delivery where it matters most. Our discussions focused on the country's broader digital transformation agenda, the rollout of the National Digital ID, and the implementation of the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative. The Council reaffirmed that these flagship programs will continue with renewed focus, stronger coordination, and a steadfast commitment to delivering meaningful results.

We also assessed the alignment of emerging digital initiatives with the Digital Ethiopia Strategy, ensuring that every investment contributes to a coherent, secure, and future-ready digital ecosystem.

Digital transformation is not an end in itself. It is a catalyst for expanding economic opportunity, improving public services, strengthening institutions, and enabling innovation. It is about ensuring that every Ethiopian has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the digital economy.

As we build the digital public infrastructure that will underpin our nation's future, we must be intentional about inclusion. The digital rails we are creating must connect every Ethiopian not only those in our cities, but also women, smallholder farmers, pastoralist communities, young people, entrepreneurs, and historically underserved populations. The true measure of our progress will not simply be the technology we deploy, but the opportunities we create and the lives we improve.

Ethiopia's digital transformation is gathering momentum. The National Digital Transformation Council remains committed to providing the strategic leadership needed to accelerate this journey and to ensure that our digital future is inclusive, resilient, and a source of shared prosperity for all Ethiopians.

During our visit to Mauritius, I had the privilege of meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Hon. Dhananjay Ramful, and the Minister of National Infrastructure, Hon. Govindranath Gunness. Our discussions focused on exploring practical avenues to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Mauritius.

We also held a productive meeting with Ato Admassu Yilma Tadesse, Executive Managing Director of the Eastern and Southern Africa Trade and Development Bank (TDB). He briefed us on the Bank's mandate, financial products, and operations, with particular emphasis on its support for development projects in Ethiopia across key sectors, including energy, manufacturing, trade, banking, and export-oriented industries.

We visited the historic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana, where we laid a wreath in honor of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at his memorial.

This sacred site is home to the mausoleum and museum of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President, an eminent Pan-African leader, and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.

The Ghanaian people's decision to establish this remarkable memorial stands as a lasting tribute to their founding father and reflects the enduring importance of honoring those whose vision and sacrifice shaped the nation, while inspiring future generations to build upon that legacy.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's vision extended far beyond Ghana's independence. He championed the complete liberation of Africa from colonialism and dedicated his life to advancing the cause of African unity. His ideals continue to inspire generations across the continent and throughout the African diaspora.

His close friendship with Ethiopia and his pivotal role in the founding of the Organization of African Unity today the African Union remain enduring symbols of his commitment to a united, prosperous, and self-determined Africa.

Long live the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

We have arrived in Accra, Ghana the historic cradle of Pan-Africanism and the home of the visionary statesman, Kwame Nkrumah to participate in the African Union Emergency Health Summit.

This summit comes at a defining moment for our continent. It offers an opportunity to advance a shared commitment to stronger, more resilient health systems that can better prevent, prepare for, and respond to both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Upon our arrival at Accra International Airport, we were honored by the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended by the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana. I convey my sincere appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and senior officials who received us with such grace and friendship.

Africa's greatest strength has always been its people and our shared determination to shape our own future. Together, through solidarity, partnership, and purposeful leadership, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous continent for generations to come.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos held talks this morning with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

Foreign Minister Gedion reaffirmed Ethiopia's strong commitment to its longstanding partnership with the European Union, emphasizing the country's desire to further deepen bilateral cooperation and expand collaboration across areas of mutual interest.

The Minister briefed the EU High Representative on the Historic National Dialogue Conference, which commenced today at the national level. He underscored that the initiative reflects Ethiopia's commitment to addressing longstanding national issues through an inclusive, transparent, and nationally led process aimed at fostering consensus, national unity, and lasting peace.

The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further enhancing the Ethio-EU partnership across all sectors of cooperation. In this regard, they highlighted the importance of the upcoming Third Ethiopia–European Union Structured Dialogue as a key platform for advancing their strategic engagement. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Director General for European and American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Meles Alem, held talks with Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro, Deputy Managing Director for Africa at the European Union in Brussels.

During the meeting, Ambassador Meles underscored Ethiopia's strong commitment to its longstanding partnership with the European Union. He underlined Ethiopia's keenness to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro, on her part, described Ethiopia as an important partner of the European Union and a key regional actor. She reiterated the EU's interest in strengthening its collaboration with Ethiopia and working closely with the country to advance shared priorities.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation.

It is with great pride that I join you today at the opening ceremony of this historic National Dialogue. This grand conference, which will bring together four thousand participants under one roof in the coming weeks, marks a historic opportunity for Ethiopia to obtain the “pen and parchment” with which to write a new chapter of its history by its own hand.

We are at a moment when we can break the cycle in Ethiopia’s political journey. A cycle that begins with inflammatory rhetoric and ends in violent action, and replace it with dialogue and discussion. I extend my sincere gratitude to the commissioners of the National Dialogue Commission for their invaluable contributions toward making this important undertaking possible.

This conference, which is founded on a bottom-up agenda-setting process involving hundreds of thousands of citizens, is a rare and remarkable event with immense significance in Ethiopia’s modern history. Through it, we have the opportunity to transform our challenges into opportunities and establish a lasting culture of peaceful transfers of power.

Today, we are planting good seeds that will benefit future generations, and we are ensuring that our children will enjoy the fruits they bear. As we participate in this dialogue, if we set aside our local interests and deliberate for the sake of Ethiopia, keeping our children and their future in mind, the outcome will be truly fruitful.

Together, let us cultivate hope, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. By resolving our differences through dialogue and reconciliation within our own country, let us safeguard Ethiopia from external interference. I call upon all participants to achieve a historic outcome; one that will benefit Ethiopia, serve as an example for Africa, and bring genuine peace and relief to all Ethiopians.

May Ethiopia forever prosper and be honored through the efforts of her children!

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos held talks with Germany's State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office, Géza Andreas von Geyr, at his office.

During the discussion, Minister Gedion highlighted that Germany is a key partner in development cooperation and trade for Ethiopia. He also underscored the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation on global issues.

State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr noted that Germany is a major destination for Ethiopian exports and emphasized the importance of further strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed cooperation on skilled labour, climate change mitigation and resilience, and exchanged views on regional developments and the situation in the Middle East.

Today, on the eve of our historic National Dialogue, I received Ethiopia's dear friend H.E. Oluṣẹgun Ọbasanjọ in my office to discuss the upcoming National Dialogue and to draw on his wisdom from such journeys, where he shared with us his experience leading the Biafra Peace process. This experience offers a great lesson for Ethiopia’s journey toward ensuring unity and lasting peace through dialogue.

During our discussions, I underscored the high importance Ethiopia attaches to further strengthening its longstanding relations with Mauritius and expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

His Excellency Prime Minister Ramgoolam commended Ethiopia's remarkable progress and the leadership driving the country's development. He also expressed his strong commitment to elevate bilateral relations between Mauritius and Ethiopia across a wide range of sectors for the mutual benefit of our two nations.

Today, we officially inaugurated the Debre Markos King Tekle Haymanot Airport, opening a new chapter of opportunity, hope, and connectivity for the people of Gojjam.

For generations, Gojjam has stood as one of Ethiopia's great pillars renowned for its heroism, blessed with abundant agricultural wealth, and representing the very best of our nation's resilience, hard work, and patriotism.

More than six decades ago, Debre Markos had an airport that served its people before it was eventually closed. For many years, the people of Gojjam never stopped calling for its restoration. They held on to that hope, and today, the Prosperity Party-led government has fulfilled that long-standing aspiration.

This is more than the inauguration of an airport. It is a promise kept. It is a recognition that development must reach every corner of Ethiopia, and that every community deserves to be connected to the opportunities of our growing nation.

The new Debre Markos King Tekle Haymanot Airport will strengthen tourism, expand trade, create jobs, and unlock new economic opportunities for the people of Gojjam and beyond. It will bring families, businesses, and communities closer together while serving as a gateway for greater investment and growth.

The Prosperity Party-led government remains steadfast in its commitment to building an Ethiopia that is connected by modern infrastructure and united by shared opportunity. From roads to railways, from airports to digital networks, we will continue investing in the foundations of lasting prosperity in every corner of our country.

Today, we officially inaugurated the King Tekle Haymanot Airport, which the people of Debre Markos and the surrounding communities had eagerly awaited for many years. The airport, which had been out of service for nearly 30 years, has now been modernized, upgraded to a higher standard, and rebuilt.

Constructed with a 2,400-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, the airport now has the capacity to accommodate large passenger and cargo aircraft such as the Q400 and B737. The commencement of operations at this airport will significantly stimulate trade, investment, and tourism in the area, opening a new chapter for the economic growth of the area and our country as a whole.

By turning challenges into opportunities, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment through action—responding step by step to our people’s development needs and completing the mega projects we have launched with both quality and speed so they can be delivered for public use.
