I used to always think that Jiu-Jitsu/combat sports were "one of the best sports for kids".
Sometimes, nowadays, I'm not so sure.
Growing up, I played a bunch of different sports. Soccer, football, baseball, and eventually, wrestling.
I stuck with wrestling partially because I liked that I got to compete with people my size, but I also liked that it was by far the hardest sport I ever tried. I was terrible at it, but it made me tough.
In my first wrestling season, I won 4 matches and lost 14. In my second season, I won 4 and lost 28. I lost double the matches in my second year.
I didn't even get better.
This was extremely humbling.
Also, the world was different then. Instagram didn't even exist. Facebook was the main thing, but mostly because I liked playing the games on it with my friends.
There was very little social media, pretty much none of my matches even existed on video anywhere, and best of all, the part of my early journey in combat sports where I got beat up all the time was mostly an internal battle. It was not online and you can't find it anywhere and relive it.
Today, it seems different, especially if the kids win at their martial art.
I see parents pretending to be their kids and running their "athlete page" on Instagram. I get DMs from parents pretending to be their 10-year-olds. I see parents pulling kids out of school to train full-time in a sport that is just starting to pay even its top athletes.
I've even heard rumors about children taking steroids to win medals in Jiu-Jitsu.
I'm not a parent and I love grappling more than any other sport, but I don't know if a sport with that culture is really a "good sport for kids". I think it's at least a discussion worth having.
I don't wrestle anymore and I don't know how the culture of wrestling has changed in the last 10ish years, but the lessons that I learned from wrestling growing up - like getting beat up and coming back again the next week, being disciplined and respecting your teammates/coaches, and learning to appreciate the craft above the clout - don't seem to exist in the same way.
Is Jiu-Jitsu actually a good sport for kids?

If she can make you lose your temper, if she can make you complain, if she can make you blame other people for your own mistakes, if she can make you make excuses instead of taking full responsibility — then you are also like a child
I made genuine friendships in Acapulco with people who had no idea what my job, network, net worth etc was. In fact, i even dressed down and minimized what i did for work and even my travels, everything just because i appreciated genuine connections (especially coming from LA and my old life there - some of y'all know about that)
Well now some of those people are finding out what the fuck their boy is capable of

If you drive a Lambo but your dad drives a Honda you’re not successful.
A really successful man makes everyone he cares about successful in one way or another
If your mom and dad still have to work but you’re drinking champagne every day you’re not a man.
A slut has no magic
A slut has no charm
She pierces her nose
She tattoos her arm
She gets on her knees
And sucks random guys
Her pussy is infected
That's not a surprise
Herpes and syphilis
Gonorrhea too
You knew she was a slut
From her Vans and tattoos

When you argue with her, you're also like a child
When you complain to her or blame her for things, you're also like a child
When you let her moods frustrate you, you're also like a child
When you let her shit tests get you angry, you're also like a child
