It’s time to put an end to the “take other people’s content and make it your own” movement.

Why is it “wrong?”

For one, you’re taking something that was once pure, someone else’s connection to source or inspiration, and distorting it into something mechanical for the purpose of gaining attention yourself. It’s spiritually hollow and a disgrace to the true act of human creation. It strips writing on social media of any soul and reduces it to a slot machine of dopamine manipulation. It’s a straight shot to the dead internet — aka an internet without the human spirit.

For two, when an entire business model is built on taking other people’s ideas, engineering them to “be your own,” teaching people how to grow their audience using the same trick, which then they will go shell to some new beginner, you don’t have a truly creative business that generates new value for society. You have a Ponzi scheme, and you’re selling snake oil. Very little real writing is being done or taught. Hacking and stealing is.

Now, I am not calling out Hussain here individually. I really like this guy, think he’s a great man and coach, and have a relationship with him, which is why I was very hesitant to write this post.

But I believe this has to be said. It’s not about Hussain. It’s about this entire movement, this sector of the “creator economy” and internet that’s built on stealing, remixing, and engineering for the sake of harvesting attention and money.

I believe it’s morally corrupt and spiritually dangerous, and unless people start to talk about it, nothing will change, and the cycle will continue.
