Thai Military Destruction of Preah Vihear Temple Exposed by International Media
Extensive damage to Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, following Thai military airstrikes and artillery bombardment has been highlighted by international media outlets.
The 11th-century Hindu temple, perched atop the Dangrek mountain range in Preah Vihear province, was targeted during two rounds of military aggression in July and December 2025, resulting in significant structural damage.
US-based publication Barron's ran the headline, “Cambodia Reveals Damage To UNESCO-listed Temple After Thailand Clashes,” accompanied by photographs showing damage to temple walls and other structures caused by shelling.
According to reports, the UN cultural agency has announced it will send a team to assess the damage following a request from Cambodia.
French broadcaster France 24 reported that it was the first international media outlet to access the temple site since the clashes, documenting extensive damage to the ornate sandstone complex dating back to the 11th century.
The report cited information from Agence France-Presse (AFP), which quoted Cambodian officials as saying the destruction resulted from “heavy artillery shelling and aerial bombardment carried out by the Thai army.”
Similar coverage was carried by Yahoo News, Singapore-based Channel NewsAsia (CNA), and Radio France Internationale (RFI).
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has submitted assessment reports on the damage to the Temple of Preah Vihear and its surrounding areas to UNESCO, the World Heritage Committee, the ICC-Preah Vihear Member States and the international community.
According to the ministry, the temple sustained damage during artillery attacks carried out between July 24 and 28, and again between December 7 and 27 last year.
From July 24 to 28 alone, 142 locations within the temple complex and 42 locations in surrounding areas — including Keo Sikha Kiri Svara Pagoda, public infrastructure and conservation office buildings of the National Authority for Preah Vihear — were damaged.
Nearby communities also suffered damage at 60 locations, including residential houses, schools, pagodas and other public infrastructure, forcing 14,832 residents to flee their homes. SOURCE KHMER TIMES

Thai military forces have transported around 50 shipping containers to the Thmar Da area in Pursat province in preparation to block road access within Cambodian territory, according to high-ranking government officials.

A Chinese businessman said on Saturday that he had lost everything after the Thai military placed shipping containers that prevented him from accessing his business properties in Cambodia’s Pursat province, where he operates several businesses, including a house and a hotel. He said he has suffered losses of millions of U.S. dollars, while Cambodia has lost land.
Mr. Wang has been in Cambodia for 27 years, running businesses in Phnom Penh, but has now lost everything he invested over just one year and three months in Thmor Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
The Thai military placed dozens of containers beginning from around 5:00 a.m. on February 7, 2026, deep inside Cambodian territory, blocking Cambodians from traveling along their own national road from Pursat province to Koh Kong province in the northwestern part of the country, according to villagers and local authorities.
Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement on December 27, 2025, stipulating that no further troop deployments or movements would be allowed afterward, but the placement of containers by the Thai military on Saturday constitutes a clear violation of the agreement, Cambodia said.
Thailand continues to destroy the existing infrastructures, rebuild it, and build road, in the attempt to legitimize its ownership! Is this gonna work?
Today, the Thai military brought containers into the Thmor Da border area within Cambodian territory in an apparent move to block access and assert territorial claims.
【Thai Influencer Builds Border Wall with Shipping Containers】
Gun Jompalang sent 50 shipping containers to the Thai-Cambodian border at Ban Nong Chan on February 6, handed directly to the Thai military as a “temporary barrier.” This is the same influencer who drove 14 septic trucks to the border last August, posted AI-generated images of sewage being sprayed on Cambodian civilians, and blasted recordings of howling dogs at night to intimidate villagers.
He has millions of Facebook followers and zero accountability to any chain of command. Thailand’s own acting prime minister called his stunts reckless. ISEAS researchers described his actions as unauthorized psychological warfare.
Whatever your position on the border dispute, a celebrity influencer running freelance military operations for content should concern everyone.
