In practical terms, given how things developed in practice, the voting extension did very little. Most voters stayed home past 5. And Lula won by 4 million votes. 4 million people did not vote in the few polls that were open past 5, that is absurd
In Brazil, if you are in line to vote inside the voting station you have a legal right to vote, meaning polls stay open past 5pm all the time. This is fake news. What happened was those polls were people were no longer voting closed and those where they did followed the extension
The major question in Brazil…
At exactly 5pm, a code is supposed to be entered that closes and locks the voting machines. Once a machine is locked, it can’t accept any more votes. It’s irreversible.
The Supreme Court extension was relayed a few minutes after polls were supposed to be closed and machines locked.
So… which machines were kept open? In what districts were those machines? And why weren’t they locked at 5pm?
At the end of the day, the real story is Lula won despite voter suppression and against a Bolsonaro appointed TSE judge that was going to let it happen. And Bolsonaro lost despite a Lula appointed judge granting his extension
@esjesjesj Both candidates requested the extension. Bolsonaro bc of rain. Lula bc of voter suppression by Bolsonarista mayors. But the Bolsonaro-appointed Electoral Judge supposed to decide refused to. So a Lula-appointed Supreme Court Justice did. The unlawful stuff was not from Lula
Basically, Lula’s campaign managed to increase turnout and convince undecided voters that a weak President they don’t like is better than an all-powerful President they don’t like
ONPE al 98.645%: Diferencia de votos entre Renovación Popular y Avanza País en Lima Metropolitana es de 52,345
