UPDATE – PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF TRANSMISSION LINES RESTORED
8:40 p.m. update for May 3
As part of the potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for the Village of Hughenden and surrounding areas in the Municipal District of Provost No. 52, two transmission lines were proactively taken out of service this afternoon due to remaining high-risk wildfire conditions. These shutoffs did not result in power outages to the community.
Once conditions improved in the early evening, crews were able to patrol the lines to inspect for damage and debris to ensure the transmission lines were safe to restore. Both lines were returned to service by 8:10 p.m.
With the lines restored, the PSPS is now over. We will continue to monitor conditions in the area. We thank everyone in the area for your patience and understanding as we worked to protect the community while delivering safe, reliable power.

UPDATE – POWER OUTAGE NOT REQUIRED
10:30 a.m. update for May 3
We have determined that a power outage is no longer anticipated as part of a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for the Village of Hughenden and surrounding areas in the Municipal District of Provost No. 52.
While high-risk wildfire conditions remain, we have determined that only one of the two transmission lines supplying the Hughenden area needs to be taken out of service. This means power will be maintained to the Village of Hughenden and the surrounding area. Because of continuing high wildfire risk, the second line supplying the area will be out of service this afternoon until conditions improve.
We know wildfire season and potential power outages can be stressful, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of residents and businesses during this potential PSPS event.
We’ll continue to closely monitor wildfire conditions and share updates if anything changes.

POTENTIAL PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF (PSPS)
7:00 p.m. update for May 2
We continue to monitor conditions in the forecast in the Provost area on Sunday, May 3. Based on the forecast conditions, there is still a potential that we may need to shut off impacted transmission lines to prevent the ignition of a wildfire. If this happens, the Village of Hughenden and surrounding areas will experience a power outage until conditions are safe to turn the power back on. At this time, we anticipate these conditions to occur late Sunday afternoon and into the evening.
This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff or PSPS, a last-resort preventative public safety measure used when the threat of sparking a fire is extreme. We monitor a range of conditions before executing a PSPS, including wind conditions, humidity levels and dry vegetation. We have crews on site observing conditions on the ground and we’re working with fire behaviour analysts and meteorologists to verify these conditions.
We're continuing to monitor the situation and will provide an update in the morning.
To prepare for a potential power outage, we encourage residents to have an emergency kit and supplies to last for at least 72 hours.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
