On December 24, 2025, Juel Sheikh, a 35-year-old Muslim migrant worker from West Bengal, was brutally beaten to death by a mob in Sambalpur, Odisha.

Reports indicate that despite showing valid Indian identity documents, he was targeted and killed amid a surge in anti-Bangladeshi immigrant vigilantism in the region. His religion and identity became the basis for suspicion, violence, and ultimately, his murder.
