This is part of the quality control testing by hammer miner before it leaves the factory. It is called a burn in test. If this isn't done then QC goes down and customers would have a worse experience. Each chip may need a different setting to function at the advertised hashrates and if there is any issues, this is where it is discovered. I would think customers would rather their unit be QC tested by the manufacture, then for it to arrive dead or with issues.
