Why Armenia's proposal to withdraw both countries troops from the interstate borders are not acceptable for Azerbaijan:
1. Azerbaijan's border with Armenia was for 30 years under occupation and it is paramount security issue for Azerbaijan to control it.
2. Some strategic hights which was previously under the occupation, now are controlled by Azerbaijan, and there is no guarantee that it won't be taken under Armenian control in the future, especially in the absence of a peace treaty.
3. Does it means that if hypotetically Azerbaijan agrees on the mutual withdrawal, Armenia vacates Azerbaijani anclaves which Armenia occupies since 1991. If not, this means that it won't be mutual and equal withdrawal.
4. Unlike Armenia which borders are guarded by Russia, Azerbaijan secures its perimeter on its own and has no intention to vest this duty to another state or organization like the EU Mission.
5. The EU tolerated the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories including borders, and now deployed on the territory of the former state-aggressor, and can't be impartial observer.
@robananyan Are you kidding?! Armenia is the only Russian ally and a member of both CSTO and Eurasian Union led by Russia in South Caucasus. Armenia is also the only country in South Caucasus hosting Russian military bases. And, Armenia's borders are guarded by Russian border guards...
First, the Armenian population of ex-NK was 120,000, and 40,000 Azerbaijanis (as for 1989).
Secondly, while definitely it is sad picture of empty settlments, yet they all intact and the population can return upon certain conditions, while a huge area outside of ex-NK (5 times more than ex-NK) was totally destroyed and contaminated with landmines by Armenia.
Now some European policy-makers and experts call the Azerbaijan's goverenment for unconditional amnesty of those Armenians who committed war crimes.
First problem - the same people won't call for forgetting older historical events such as 1915.
Second, we do not see such rerpieveing attitude to crimes committed in the Balkans or other parts fo the world. Vice versa, the punishment is the improtant element of reconciliation process as we have seen it in Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, the Balkans, etc.
Third, in order to grant amnesty, at least, those who commtted them should express remorse and ask for amnesty. Thus far, no one expressed it.
Fourth, recent statement of Armenia MFA on arrested war criminals has aggressive undertone rather reconciliatory urge.
Fifth, Armenia openly admits that its desicion to join ICC aimed at Azerbaijan. apparently, Armenia is preparaing to a wider legal battle.
So, in this circumstances, I think it is not just wrong, but IMMORAL to call Azerbaijan to forgive war criminals.
Indeed, shocking double standards - why you and other folks speak about threat of ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Karabakh which thus far did not happen and not speak about the ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis from Armenia which happened.
Usual Armenian xenophobia in a usual Armenian newspaper: "I perceive them [Turks] as they are: animals, some kind, breathing, I don't know... Here the Turk is that hyena. And I can't be hurt by a hyena to be offended by his snarl and curse."
1) Border crossing post on the Lachin road is the only solution for enabling transparency and ensuring that no illegal goods, including military will be moved along the road. Armenia insisted that on its own territory on Zangezur/Meghri on the passage between Azerbaijan proper and Nakhichevan border posts must be established.
2) The trilateral statement of 10.11.2020 can not (even if someone would interpret that it envisages no post) overwrite Azerbaijan Constitution and legislation.
3) Establishment of border crossing posts with customs and passport control is in full conformity with international law.
@liga151515@ProfBShaffer So, why on the earth should Azerbaijan grant a corridor to a foreign country (i.e., Armenia) to access Azerbaijan's own territory (i.e., Karabakh)?!
