On this date in 2018 the Steel selected teammates Sam Colangelo and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine in the Phase II draft. Both players were selected in the 2020 NHL draft, Colangelo by the Anaheim Ducks and Fontaine by the Nashville Predators.

On this date in 2018 the Steel drafted Owen Power, Matthew Coronato, Mackie Samoskevich and Josh Doan. Rumor has it that these four gentlemen may have their names called at another draft later this year...

On this date in 2014, the Steel drafted Matt Kiersted in the 1st round (6th overall) in the Phase I draft.

On this date in 2015, the Steel selected Baker Shore in the first round of the USHL Phase I draft. @da_bakeshow played 122 games for the Steel between 2015-18.

Happy birthday to Greg Printz (2015-17)! @Greg_Printz played parts of 2 seasons for the Steel and also skated with the Omaha Lancers. Greg played 4 seasons with Providence College, serving as Captain this season, and is currently on a PTO with the San Diego Gulls in the AHL.

More belated birthday wishes to blueliner Charlie Raith (2014-16)! Charlie began his USHL career with the Steel, playing 66 games, before stints with Sioux Falls, Bloomington and Central Illinois. Has spent the last three seasons with Notre Dame.

Happy belated birthday to netminder Alex Sakellaropoulos (2011-13)! @TheRealSakFact1 was a national champion for the Union Dutchmen in 2014 and has played professionally in the AHL, ECHL and SPHL the past 4 seasons.

Happy belated birthday to Jaccob Slavin (2010-13)! Currently patrolling the blue line in Carolina, the former Captain @Jslavin74 played 139 games for the Steel and was the NCHC Rookie of the Year at Colorado College.

Happy belated birthday to Doug Wilson Jr. (2005-06)! Wilson played 9 games for the Steel and 6 from the Lincoln Stars. He later played for Tufts U. and internationally in Sweden and Australia. Currently the Director of Scouting for the San Jose Sharks.

Happy birthday to Matt Clackson (2003-05) the Steel's all-time (384) and single-season (270) PIM leader. Matt attended W. Michigan and was drafted in the 7th round by the Flyers in 2005. He played 5 seasons in the AHL with Philadelphia, Adirondack, Chicago, Hershey and Portland.

Happy birthday to Greg Wolfe (2008-10)! @wolfe_greg went on to become the Captain at Michigan St. before an eventful career between the ECHL and AHL. Named an ECHL all-star twice and led the Toledo Walleye to a Kelly Cup Final appearance and also played a season in Norway.
