Big congrats to @SpaceX@elonmusk He made thousands of new millionaires and a handful of new billionaires. He took the biggest risks none of us would dare to, and convinced others to follow. He’s accelerating human progress: EVs, space, Neuralink, and the list goes on. Yet instead of cheering, people who did nothing, line up to demand a % cut.
In 2004, at my grandmother’s memorial, my mother leaned toward my grandfather and asked how he was holding up.
He grabbed her arm and whispered:
“Don’t love too much.”
The terms of the employment offered:
Each day is spent among your closest friends. Summoned by no appointment, no calendar. Simply, dependably there.
Nothing to plan. Someone else draws up the work schedule.
The midday meals and breaks with the whole company: coffee, air, a game to blow off steam.
A gymnasium, a field, a room full of instruments; available to all, and not a fee nor a membership demanded.
The days end by mid-afternoon, leaving a trifle to finish at home.
No rent comes due, no bills, no premium, no tax.
Your very bread and bed, furnished out of another's pocket.
This was high school. And we could not wait to leave.
You need to be quick in life.
I would grab my sister by the nostrils,
pull her to her knees,
turn around and bend.
Then the reveal!
(The formal word is “Flatulence”)
Ai infrastructure, hardware, software are advancing at a rate that would have stupefied any generation before this one, while American education stands still.
Four out of five districts without a policy, and the teachers who forbid the tool to their students use it themselves to grade their papers, plan their lessons, and write the reports that decide where those students will go.
The children who teach themselves anyway will overtake the ones who obeyed. The same panic had met the calculator, the internet, and will meet whatever is next. Only the casualties change.
Ai should be part of our education system.

The startup, by contrast, fails honestly, nine times in ten, and yet the tenth pays for the nine, while the nine themselves leave behind trained operators, tested ideas, and recycled capital that finds its way into the next attempt and the one after. Even the corpses do the work.
Give the money to the entrepreneurs. Even the failures pull their weight.
Keep it up, by all means. But prepare yourself for the further reckoning, the one that arrives when you regard yourself from their position rather than your own. That is when you will at last comprehend the magnitude of what you have meant to them. It happens the day your own child arrives, and not a moment before.
A woman heavily pregnant to the point of imminent labour wanders into the middle of a public road clutching an uncapped bottle of vodka, watched by a passer-by who, rather than calling out or intervening, has a camera already running, at which cinematic juncture a male saviour materialises from offstage to resolve the tableau. There are no improbabilities here
