We can confirm that South Africa's next Ambassador to the United Nations in New York will be Mxolisi Nkosi - the current Ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva.

Ambassador Nkosi is an experienced diplomat having served as Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and head of mission to the European Union and in the SA.

Until his appointment as South Africa’s Ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, he was the Head of Global Governance and Continental Agenda at DIRCO, and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Sherpa to G7 Outreach Sessions.

An expert in the field of international relations and diplomacy, Nkosi previously headed the Africa Branch in DIRCO.

He is due to arrive in New York on May 1st.

Prioritising the Financing and Funding of Infrastructure – G20 IWG margins event:

On 19 March 2025, Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), with the support of Pinsent Masons, hosted a high-level event alongside the G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting in Johannesburg. The discussion brought together government, investors, development banks, and private sector stakeholders to explore strategies for unlocking infrastructure investment.
A keynote address by the Gauteng Provincial Government set the stage for a roundtable discussion featuring Claire Barclay from Pinsent Masons as moderator and experts from the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation (SIF) (Christophe Dossarps), Pinsent Masons (Catherine Workman), Africa Infrastructure Investment Managers, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and the New Development Bank.

The event reinforced the importance of public-private collaboration in infrastructure financing. Source was highlighted as a key tool in improving project preparation, ensuring alignment with national requirements, and mobilising investment. As Catherine Workman of Pinsent Masons noted, "When the government leads, the private sector follows."

Effective infrastructure development requires strong leadership, structured project preparation, and innovative funding solutions. Strengthening public-private partnerships and leveraging Source will be key to driving progress.
