Making it obligatory for teams to have a U20 or U21 on the field at all times is not something the footballing community should embrace. Of course we want our young talent to get minutes and show the world what they are capable of, but this forces coaches to give minutes to players who may not be ready for the big occasion.
Imagine you play for Liverpool or Manchester United or Real Madrid and you are taking the place of a veteran starter who the club paid a transfer fee for and you make a mistake on the pitch. The amount of abuse and hate that player would get is something that older players would have trouble working through. Now we would be forcibly subjecting a 19/20/21 year old to that same abuse, because we all know that football fans do not look at the age of a player before hurling abuse their way.
I want young players who get minutes, but I want them to get minutes through merit and hard work, not obligation by a higher governing power.
#LFC paid less than $500,000 for Will Wright. He is an absolute scoring machine. Already made the bench for the first team at 18 and has trained with them as well. One to watch from our academy in the near future
Rio Ngumoha had an incredible game and has proven he needs more game time. He will be a big piece of this Liverpool team in the coming years. Also really happy to see Kieran Morrison get minutes tonight. He’s also a really bright talent that LFC have in the ranks
Good move for Trent Kone-Doherty. Showed promise for the U21 this season, but will get regular first team minutes at Molde. Sell-on and buy-back clauses are key for #LFC.
That was the furthest thing from a penalty I’ve ever seen. Diaz flops to the floor from the lightest pull from Diouf. If this game is played in any other country it doesn’t even get checked
I want Slot to stay but his status is ruining our transfer window. If he was guaranteed to stay there’s no way we wouldn’t match 20 million for Guehi when we offered more in the summer. 6 months vs 12 months doesn’t matter in this context. If anything we need it more now.
@SMXLFC Complaining that the club secured a new global partner and commits to growing their fanbase overseas is genuinely mind blowing. Complaining just for the sake of it
