TrueNorth, Urban Care Pharmacy, and Safer Six located at 24-26 Dalhousie St, Toronto, ON M5B 2A5 appear on the surface to be just a normal medical clinic complex.
In fact they are a one-stop-shop for safe supply, "harm reduction," and "addiction recovery."

They're government funded, and you'd think hey - addiction recovery - that's a good thing right!

Except, they don't seem to really care about their clients' recovery. It seems they only care about the money and the return customers. It's a great business model!

In fact, when their clients leave with their safe supply and clean needles, they wash their hands of them and our community is left to deal with a sea of humanity in various states of getting high, distress, and sometimes overdose. We are the ones who call 911.

The presence of these clinics has destroyed our neighbourhood! In fact in May there were two drug-related murders that occurred on Dalhousie.

Do not let the harm reduction advocates attempt to set up shop in your neighbourhoods. These policies as implemented DO NOT WORK.

Using de-identified @TorontoPolice stats on their Open Data portal has two key deficiencies that weren't noted:

— For privacy, incidents are moved to the nearest intersection; and
— Data is aggregated to the neighbourhood level, which are huge & do not give you localized data of the impact to neighbourhoods who host the drug injection sites.

If you want an accurate picture, you need to FOI data within 200 metres of the drug injection sites, which Leslieville did (see first photo, pulled from @DerekFinkle: https://t.co/qmxlu440Si).

The best metric is service calls as you can geo-locate where they're coming from to within 200m (remember, location matters) and the data speaks for itself:

— 60% increase in reports of assault
— 900% increase to priority one (most urgent) calls
— 750% increase to priority two calls

If you want to use the neighbourhood-wide data, of course you can cherry-pick ones that tell the story you want. Instead, let's look at West Queen West from the inception of the drug injection site to 2023 (see table for all crime data also pulled directly from TPS' Open Data portal).

Assaults are up 17.1%, but that's proportional to population growth, the following are not (highlighted in yellow):

— 47.6% increase to breaking & entering
— 57.1% increase to breaking & entering with intent
— 50% increase to robbery
— 200% increase to robbery with a weapon
— 180% increase to theft of motor vehicle (but that's a larger issue, so I'd also scratch this one)

I've submitted a request for localized crime data for the location in my community, but the neighbourhood-wide offenses highlighted in yellow that have increased disproportionately to population growth are also consistent with what the community has raised. Finally, remember also that fatigue within the community means much goes unreported. Others get reported to 311, which would need to be FOI'ed, but let's be honest about the fact that the city would be hesitant to provide that data, e.g. how many 311 service requests are made for needle or feces.
