Liverpool, to an extent. United? Absolutely not ! They’ve had about €1.8bn net transfer spend under the Glazers. And both inherited enormous revenues built from decades of dominance. That’s the entire point, PSR lets historically rich clubs spend their enormous revenues while telling challengers they can’t invest to close the gap. I do hope you are deliberately missing the point

Arsenal are owned by a billionaire, have spent around £750m rebuilding Arteta’s squad, and their record guaranteed player sale is still £35m.

Calling that organic while insisting clubs with smaller historic revenues shouldn’t be allowed to invest to catch them rather beautifully explains what PSR actually protects.

Spurs are probably the best example for your argument and I’ll give you that. You invested in the stadium, took the pain and grew the club’s revenues.

But ‘four clubs developed organically’is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Chelsea and City certainly didn’t, and the others built much of their financial advantage in a completely different regulatory era.

Plus, Spurs have just recorded two 17th-place finishes while running up an enormous net spend. So clearly ‘cutting your cloth’ becomes rather easier once you’ve established the revenues that the current rules then protect.

You have a point there and our owners deserve criticism for it. But it doesn’t change the fundamental problem, a system that bases what you can spend on what you already earn protects the clubs already at the top. It effectively pulls the ladder up behind them. Funny how it’s almost exclusively fans of the traditional top six who can’t see this.

It’s all PR. Makes him seem more human, ordinary and down to earth. Doesn’t quite fit with the person who is team captain and hires a super agent to extricate him from a long term contract from his employers so he can double his wages. He’s fake. Always was. That’s why so many people are so angry because they realise they’ve been had.
