I'm glad that there are groups like the RAUC, UChiago Socialists, and Faculty Forward that have made an effort to spread light on racial justice and demand reparations.

I was shocked to read about how a college as prestigious as the University of Chicago still has remnants of their slaveholding past woven into the community. It makes it worse that the university refuses to acknowledge this.

"The slave plantation would be put in Douglas’s wife’s name... giving Douglas plausible deniability if he was ever questioned about his ownership of enslaved people" This shows Douglas knew what he was doing was wrong, but all he cared about was his wealth.

The article states that the capitalist class is doing well, but capitalism is doing badly. I thought this would be a direct relationship, but low reinvestment rates prevent this from happening.

The article states that the US is not in a position to call the shots globally like in the 1970s. I thought this was interesting, I assumed that we still were.

I felt the same way too. After I read the article I tried to find a simple definition, but it seems like neoliberalism is too complex to be defined by a few words, just like the article said.

Harvey says the fundamental issues we face are deeply rooted and cannot be fixed by anything but a strong anticapitalist movement. Is a movement this drastic even remotely possible to carry out?

Kubrick conveys how absurd the Cold War was. He satirizes how the world essentially was in the hands of a few men who were in a disagreement to the point of almost entering a nuclear war.

I didn't really understand the ending. Was Kubrick trying to make a political statement by allowing Dr. Strangelove to stand up from his wheelchair?

Dr. Quao says that every problem faced by Africa can be traced back the the parent conference and the inability for people to work together. I think she brings up an interesting and true point.

Dr. Quao points out the issue of having small countries negotiating with larger ones, comparing it to throwing a lightweight with a heavyweight in a boxing ring.

Although women faced constraints under the New Negro World, the newspaper still allowed them to actively participate in political discourse, which was empowering for many.

There were little platforms for black nationalist women to speak on. Even on the "New Negro World," women faced constraints on what they could speak about.
