Things to note before creating a Trading 212 account as a Ghanaian 🇬🇭👇🏽
1. The app isn’t available on the Ghana App Store, so you’ll need to sign up through the web app/browser.
2. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your passport or Ghana Card. Even small mismatches can delay verification.
3. When asked for your TIN (Tax Identification Number), enter your Ghana Card Number. In Ghana, your Ghana Card Number serves as your TIN.
4. Have your passport or Ghana Card ready for identity verification, along with a selfie during onboarding.
5. You may also be asked to provide proof of address (e.g. a recent bank statement or utility bill). Make sure your document clearly shows your name and address.
6. Verify your email as soon as you receive the confirmation email so you can complete registration.
7. If you’re funding your account, use a bank account or card in your own name. It helps avoid verification and withdrawal issues later. Community reports show many account problems stem from incomplete KYC or document requests rather than the platform itself.
8. Ghana is a supported country, so you can open a Trading 212 account if you meet the requirements.
9. If you encounter any issues during registration or if any of your documents get declined, don’t panic. Send an email to Trading 212 Support explaining the issue—they’re known to respond promptly and will guide you through resolving it.
10. Trading 212 is regulated by top-tier financial regulators, including the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), the Bulgarian Financial Supervision Commission (FSC), and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) (depending on your account). This has nothing to do with the Ghana Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC Ghana), so don’t be concerned if you don’t see the Ghana SEC listed.
If you’re stuck at any step, leave a comment or send me a DM. Happy to help more Ghanaians start investing in U.S. stocks.
