Favorite things
Roses of Sharon swaying in the morning
The sunflower turning its face in yearning
A quiet green garden left wet with the dew
The orange tree blooming just when she is due.
The quiet, long walks with a cherished loved one
The babble of babies beneath the warm sun
The smooth river stones in their glorious colors
A choir of birds post-rain and their chorus.
Congratulations
Tear out every written page,
And cover up your little cage.
Draw the blinds against the sky,
Turn around, embrace the lie.
Stay steeped in your own illusion,
Keeping sane through blind omission.
For that is the price you pay,
To breathe where you have no say.
Live fast, die slow
People walking fast or slow,
In this city, up and down they go.
With umbrellas through the doors,
Whether sun shines or rain pours.
People lonely in a crowd,
Masking it by talking loud.
People saying nothing much,
Walking singly, out of touch.
People smiling right at you,
And the grumpy faces, too.
Those who hurry for a taxi,
Those who take their time and dally.
Strangers as they come and go,
People you see but never know.
All are holding dreams and hope,
Some just wish to find a home.
A Good Morning
The light rain of the night before
Leaves a silver residue on leaf and moor.
The air hangs clean, washed and fresh,
While the morning's quiet seems to stretch
Upward to meet the golden sun,
Crowning the horizon like a newborn son.
The Stampede in the savanna
A tree rustled at his passing,
The air displaced, then snapped back into place.
Branches bent and cracked against the wind,
The culprit long gone.
