Ghana’s GoldBod lauded for improving foreign exchange generation, strengthening reserves and currency stability by H.E. Francisca Tatchouop Belobe, African Union Commissioner on Economic Development, Trade Tourism and Minerals
It was an absolute honor to host African leaders, colleague mining ministers and global industry captains in Accra today for the launch of the 2026 Mining in Motion summit.
Under the theme "One Continent. One Voice on Minerals," our message was clear: the world needs Africa's minerals but Africa's priority is what those minerals build at home including industries, skills and lasting prosperity for our people.
We are keeping our doors wide open to international investors, financiers, and technology partners who seek stable, transparent and mutually beneficial collaborations.
Together, we are championing a unified African voice to ensure our natural wealth drives genuine domestic industrialization rather than just raw extraction.
Before the current commander, Pablo became the National Youth Organiser and delivered; he was also a DCE, like Saankara. He understands the ground like Pablo. He worked with Pablo as RYO in the last election; succeeding him would be perfect.

Hon. @opongfosu understands this. From governance to grassroots mobilisation, he believes young people should have a real voice in shaping decisions, not just cheer from the sidelines.
Renewing the NDC starts with trusting its youth.

I had the privilege of meeting with the leadership of Shandong Gold Group at their headquarters in Jinan today, where we explored new frontiers for sustainable resource management in Ghana.
Their exemplary green mining model, which seamlessly integrates large-scale environmental rehabilitation, rigorous tree planting initiatives, and uncompromised worker safety represents the gold standard of modern resource extraction that we are actively working to replicate back home.
During our discussions, I encouraged the leadership to aggressively scale up the deployment of advanced, eco-friendly technologies, including electric mining vehicles, to drastically slash operational footprints while ensuring our ecological integrity remains fully preserved.
Ghana stands fully prepared to deepen this strategic partnership on a strictly win-win framework, and I officially invited Shandong Gold to utilize our nation as their central hub for broader industrial expansion across the African continent.
It was a productive engagement with our able youth organizers in the Atwima NWABIAGYA NORTH, ATWIMA NWABIAGYA SOUTH and ATWIMA MPONUA constituencies.
We had honest conversations, listened to their concerns and shared ideas on how we can move forward together as a formidable youth front of our great party.
The grassroots remains the heart of our movement and we will continue to engage, connect and build together.

Meeting and engaging the young people of Asante Mampong was a deeply fulfilling experience for me. I had the opportunity to listen, share ideas and connect with the youth as we discussed the future of the youth front of our great party and the role we must play in strengthening the grassroots.

Today, I held an extensive engagement with the management and staff of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) to discuss Cabinet’s strategic decision to modernize and revitalize the company.
I emphasized that, in its current state, VALCO cannot achieve its full potential because of longstanding financial and operational challenges.
Currently, only about 90 of the smelter's 500 reduction cells are operational, leaving the company well below its installed production capacity.
Notably, only about 90 of the smelter’s 500 reduction cells are currently in operation, meaning production is far below installed capacity.
It has therefore become imperative to invite prospective investors with the capacity to partner with the government to revitalize VALCO - a process that remains open, as no investor has been settled on yet.
The government remains fully committed to safeguarding this key national asset while giving it the capital and technology it needs to thrive.
A stronger VALCO means more jobs for Ghanaians, greater value addition to our mineral resources, a stronger manufacturing base, and a more competitive industrial sector.
The objective is simply to revive VALCO, not to sell it.
Today, on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, I am happy to announce a landmark Strategic Partnership with the World Gold Council (WGC).
Together, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) in Ghana.
This partnership will focus on strengthening supply chain integrity, enhancing traceability, combating illicit gold flows, and empowering our mining communities through standard-setting and capacity building.
As an immediate first step, the WGC is committing an initial $250,000 development grant as part of a broader $1 Million program to support Ghana’s flagship rCOMSDEP initiative.
A new chapter for Ghana’s ASGM sector begins today.
