So 12 hours with a certified OG (Orton-Gillingham) tutor is transforming this child’s life into a literate life.
Tell me why public education 'experts' and policymakers argue that this can’t be done, and fight to keep direct, explicit instruction out of general education classrooms &/or from kids who need it. #FAPEdenied
All students deserve @aogpe certified OG professional educators like Ms. Sanders. #LiteracyIsEquity

“So many teachers like me have believed that a professor at Teachers College, an Ivy League institution, should be up-to-date on the reading research. The fact that she was disconnected from that research is evidence of the problem.” https://t.co/hVgZHXVFil
This kind of rhetoric might protect people’s egos and their jobs as college professors, but it sure doesn’t help kids or promote a love of literature, @ALALibrary. For that you need kids to learn how to read. And, you can do that by using great books, not awful leveled books.
Thursday’s announcement represents a significant victory for parents — some of whom wept at the press conference — who have long been frustrated with the city’s inability to educate many struggling readers. https://t.co/WifbREPvad
Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, two of the biggest names in literacy education, are breaking their silence in the debate over how best to teach kids to read, responding to criticism that their ideas don’t align with reading science. https://t.co/YEQN7JhY0P
The book that I got today vs the books my 5yo brought home today from her 1st day of school. Why is she bringing predictable readers home when I know the school has decodables?
I was proud that she covered the pictures & read them with ease (except the word 'laughing')!
The narrative in #balancedliteracy and #tcrwp saying that “just right level” books help kids is false. Keeping kids at a narrow level does not help your “good” or your struggling readers. And it often keeps kids behind for good, especially the less privileged.
