Obviously we defend all our clients, but it’s stupid and dangerous to say that it’s wrong to defend the guilty. Defense attorneys and prosecutors frequently do not and cannot truly know what happened! If identifying and exonerating the innocent were easy, I’d be out of a job

I had a case with allegations of serious and scary domestic violence. Like many cases of this sort, the evidence was entirely testimonial. Client maintained innocence. I thought: he could be telling the truth, but also, I’ve heard this song before.

Clients need public defenders to be in their corner 100%. When you have that truly innocent client, you will almost never get handed the smoking gun that proves it. You will never know beyond a doubt what happened. You just have to fight the state’s case as hard as you can

- heartbreaking loss on an important motion, sat with client A’s sobbing mom
- client B told me he is being “targeted by the NSA” and accused my supervisor of being a Jew
- client C told me he loves my shoes & has a thing for feet

Our Philadelphia street got its first Harris canvasser and this poor woman, having to handle so many people telling her they *want* to vote Harris but are struggling with their conscience. It’s wild to watch this be the opposite of most Twitter things: irl, people are sickened
