🗽 The Goodyear Blimp took flight over NYC on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Sail4th 250 tall ships event, which the airship will join in the skies over New York Harbor this weekend.
1010 WINS reporter Amanda Alexandre was aboard the legendary aircraft, named Wingfoot One, as it floated above the city on a blistering summer day.
The blimp took off from Floyd Bennett Field, went past Coney Island and then headed to New York Harbor, where it flew over the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
The flight comes just a day before Sail4th 250 is set to begin. The event will see dozens of vessels from around the world traversing the East and Hudson rivers in the “largest parade of tall ships ever assembled.” It will also include aircraft like the Blue Angels.
In total, there will be more than 75 vessels, 200 aircraft and roughly 20,000 sailors and Marines on the streets of New York City, officials said.
1010 WINS is the official radio partner of Sail4th 250.
