The level of hate @sanjeevsanyal gets from social science types is unreal. But I think I have narrowed down the reason behind the bile. It is because of his sheer audacity to break away from the tribe. Most people of Sanjeev’s background and education go on to become some form of developmental economists and are silent enablers of social justice language and woke bs. Sanjeev is seen as a “blood-traitor” by this lot. How could someone whose education and skills are so in line with what we do, end up being on the opposing side? He is gifted with language and he has a bias for action. And he is prolific in his work. How do you tackle such an all-round player? You engage in childish name-calling and smear attacks.

Surprisingly they forget that it is because of people like @sanjeevsanyal that we didn’t end up in a inflationary cycle post covid. All gora economists wanted us to splurge. Sanjeev shouted alone on the face of the international onslaught of quantitative easing and stood his ground that we shouldn’t lose sight of the fiscal and keep our dry powder ready. He was criticised left right and centre from all seasonal economists and JNU types.

He had the last laugh in 2022. We all owe him gratitude.
