Phnom Penh Police Commissioner Orders Search for Homeless Man Filmed Arguing With Tyler Fox
Phnom Penh Police Commissioner Chuon Narin today ordered the Daun Penh district chief to find a homeless man who confronted American YouTuber IAm TylerFox outside Wat Ounalom earlier this month. The stated reason is damage to Cambodia's tourism sector. Vendors and tuk-tuk drivers at the scene told police the actual encounter happened on April 9. The man sleeps around the pagoda, they said, and had been there that day because a donor was handing out gifts to cyclo and PassApp drivers. Police haven't found him yet.
The encounter is shorter than the response suggests. Fox was walking toward the pagoda entrance when the man raised a hand at him. Fox fires back on camera, "What's wrong with you, bro? I wish you would. I wish you would." By the end of the vlog he's thinking out loud about what set the man off. "I don't know if it maybe it was because I was filming. I filmed him... I'm in their country and in their world."
The way the man reacted wasn't right. But the assumption that a foreign vlogger can point a camera at any stranger and expect a warm reception is worth more scrutiny than it gets. A homeless man in the US filmed without consent by a foreigner would probably react the same way or worse. He may have his own challenges, and the police are treating this purely as disrespect toward tourists. The assumption on the other side of the lens never comes up.
This is more than a picture — it’s a call for justice 🫡🔥
