We need evidence-based and trauma- & violence-informed ways to tell stories about data that don’t stigmatize people, are rooted in hope for change and convey respect for folks experiencing violence, discrimination and abuse. This chapter is a good start!

@fordnation's statement seems to lack empathy for those who experience violence in places we should feel safe, and his 'solution' contradicts best practices. ON is home to many brilliant scholars who would love the opportunity to share safe, evidence-based approaches 💫
I study family violence and it's impact on children across the lifespan. Yesterday @fordnation was asked about reducing school violence. He responded "..with my parents, if I hit a teacher, I’d get twice the hit when I got home". 3 reasons why this statement is alarming: #onpoli
Oh geez. Premier Ford is asked about violence in elementary schools, says if he ever hit a teacher in school he’d get “twice the hit when I got home.” Says kids must respect teachers.
3. Over-simplification: Ford's statement overlooks the role of schools, communities and government policies involved in shaping children's behaviour. Ford's statement implies that fixing school violence can be achieved merely through caregiver use of physical discipline #onted
An inspiring day! Thank you to the organizers, host, trainees, clinicians, educators, and speakers! I loved hearing about all the mixed-method task-sharing initiatives! The challenges are real but these folks are asking the right questions @mel_kimber @MckinnonIn@OffordCentre
