Here’s one mistake I see in almost every novel I edit: too much narrative distance, or space between the reader & the characters/events in the story.
Here are three ways you could be creating narrative distance & weakening your manuscript – without even realizing it (a 🧵):
Read this book in two days! I thoroughly enjoyed every page! I've never laughed so much while reading and the story was soo heartfelt and relatable! I loved all the characters! They had so much life. Thank you so much @elisembryant!

Today I paid off the mortgage on my house in Mississippi and gave it to my mom. It's hers now and paid for. She cried buckets.
Thank you all for making that possible.
I have a lot of prep to do before I start my second draft but I'm super excited. I'm doing a deeper dive on the world building and it's going great. This is why I love writing fantasy!🤩
I’ll be 43 on Monday & this is my debut novel.
Another Beast’s Skin is a contemporary fantasy featuring an MC in her 30s with anxiety, sword skills, & a mean recipe for pb cookies.

@LisaOz6 Yess! I believe he also wrote the screenplay too because the ending goes a little further than the ending in the book (no spoilers lol) but it really brings everything to a nice close. First time I liked a book and its movie. 😊
