On This Day — July 30, 1492

Spain ordered the expulsion of its Jews.

The Alhambra Decree gave roughly 200,000 Jews four months to convert or leave. Most chose exile.

Tens of thousands died on the roads and at sea. Some captains took their payment and threw them overboard. Others were murdered by brigands searching their bodies for swallowed jewels. Those who fled to Portugal faced forced baptism or further expulsion.

The survivors became the Sephardim. Their language, Ladino, carried a Spanish-Hebrew mix into new lands for centuries.

The Inquisition continued hunting “conversos," Jews who had been forced to convert but were still suspected of secretly practicing Judaism. For the first time, Jewishness was treated as something unchangeable because it was in the Jews' blood.

One of the richest and most accomplished Jewish communities in the world was destroyed almost overnight.

It took Spain until 1968 to formally revoke the decree.

The report substantiates misconduct against five officers, including Constables Farhan Ali and Haroon Siddiqui and the three supervisors who approved the episode.

Israel could have cut the internet in Gaza, but it did not want to because it was never at war with the people of Gaza, just the terror groups that carried out the attacks and took 255 hostages.

Sometimes, I realise that being an air sign I expect the world to understand me without having to explain myself.

The suggestion that I feel no compassion for Palestinian’s is both untrue and absurd. I am devastated for the loss of the innocent lives on both sides of this war and I call for peace.

I have read members of the press calling me a ‘genocide denier’ yet those who deny the suffering of Israelis are given a free pass.

My song is pro peace and about the emotions I felt after visiting the Nova Exhibition and talking to Michael and Lisa Marlowe who had their son Jake taken from them. Murdered trying help others.

I also spent time talking to May Hayat who survived while her best friend was murdered. We took a picture standing in front all the people who were killed that day.

Everyone knows what happened to innocent women, kids, babies, sons and fathers on that day, innocent people who were at a festival celebrating life.

The Nova Festival is a mirror of my world as a DJ and I have played many such festivals, including in Israel so it resonated with me and I felt compelled to write something.

I could have been there and we know that there were people from more than 40 countries who were. I felt these deep emotions and is wrote this song for them.

My personal opinion is that this is sadly a war , but not an attempt to wipe out Palestine. But I respect that everyone has their own opinions and believe we should all be allowed to have that right.

Look around and tell me one musician speaking out for the Jewish community, but you can absolutely guarantee they have made their living from working with a Jewish team member.

I understand that is uncomfortable to defend your friends when a war like this is raging but the woman who sells me bagels is not to blame, neither is my doctor or publicist, manger, ex boyfriend or my thousands of Jewish friends. This song is for them.

I come from a place of peace. I am a jew loving, trans hugging queer hippy and my mother would be proud of me.

The band Massive Attack threatened to take legal action against me last year. Now, they are facing their own legal problems. 👀

After holding up a Palestinian flag during a show in Singapore 🇸🇬, the band is facing up to 6 years in prison.

The country has strict rules against displaying foreign emblems without permission.

I guess legal issues are the only way the band can stay relevant.

Shabbat Shalom everyone.

Today, a victim of sexual abuse saw one of her perpetrators die. It is a victory in the loosest sense of the word.

The scars and the trauma remain for her and so many other survivors. But the terrorist in question will never again force a woman to take up the mantle of survivor.

And there is some peace in knowing that.

I hope all survivors have a peaceful week ahead.

In Buddhism we understand that every action comes with a consequence. Due to my decision to stand up for my Jewish friends I am losing a few people from my life. Today I parted company with Tony Pontius who has run my record label BGP for a number of years. I wanted to release 'We Will Dance Again' but he was unequivocal and said 'I want nothing to do with this song' and I responded 'ok, we are done'.
When someone is gutless it really does not hurt to say goodbye. My faith in humanity will not diminish and the truth will always win.

I have been informed by the Oxford Union that the video of the Islam debate I spoke in has not been published because "two speaker consent forms were outstanding." All the speakers on my side consented – they forced us to sign before they would allow us into the debate.

So it seems that two of the speakers on the other side were permitted to speak without signing, and are now afraid of the debate being seen.

@Jacob_Rees_Mogg did you consent? Or was it the President herself? Or 'Abdullah al Andalusi' (Also known as Mouloud Farid and as Wazir Leton Rahman) or Michael Dawud?

I want to type out verbatim what I just heard Austin Franco (the Cornell antisemite) say on Piers Morgan as a justification for not working for Jews:

‘If you had a problem with Asian people or midgets, right, like, you know, let’s say you’re around ten midgets and all of them are really mean to you, they step on your feet, right? You’re gonna say “OK I don’t wanna be around you anymore.” And if your boss is somehow a midget, you’re gonna say “listen, I don’t wanna work for you ‘cause you’re a midget.”’

This is how a student of an *Ivy League* college speaks, presents himself, and attempts to make an argument. Bigotry aside, the sheer stupidity and immaturity is simply breathtaking. He talks like a 12-year-old child.

How on earth did he get into that college?
