It turns out Iran didn't shoot a short-range anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) at the USS George Washington and an accompanying destroyer escort but rather medium-range hypersonic "carrier killer" Qassem Bassir ASBMs that can reach speeds of Mach 5-8.
This is the first time in US history that we know of that a US near peer competitor has fired a hypersonic missile of any kind against a US warship. The US Navy has very little defense against hypersonic missiles and so these Iranian hypersonic ASBMs pose a deadly threat to US aircraft carriers and their escorts.
If even one or two hypersonic missiles hit one of our carriers and it caught fire and was forced to withdraw from the region smouldering it would be a massive blow to US prestige. That is something Iran could do at any time whenever it chooses to do so if Trump fooolishly decides to keep escalating his illegal, unconstitutional imperial war of aggression against Iran.
BREAKING: For the first time since the start of the war, Iran's IRGC attempted to hit a US nuclear aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman yesterday, using the Qasem Basir medium-range anti-ship ballistic missile which has a range of approximately 1,200km.
In response to the strike, US CENTCOM has permanently disabled 3 Iranian oil tankers, including the M/T Downy off the coast of Kharg Island, the M/T Stark 1 near Jask, and the M/T Kylo in the Gulf of Oman.
Iran now directly warns Trump that "All US naval ships are now targets. Any strikes on Iranian ships will be met with multiple strikes on vessels linked to countries participating in the anti-Iranian aggression."
Iran is again launching anti-ship cruise missiles toward a US aircraft carrier and/or vessels under US Navy escort in the past few minutes, per initial reports.
Trump just released his new 2026 campaign slogan--"Let Iran take out Los Angeles or San Diego--a very small price to pay." He basically conceded Iran has nukes and that his forever war in the Middle East has accomplished nothing while at the same time admitting he wouldn't care if Iran killed millions of Americans.
Trump's audience cheered as he suggested allowing Iran to nuke two of America's largest cities. If anyone had any delusions that the the GOP was poised to retain control of either House of Congress, this should dispel them.
Democrats are going to use this video clip of him saying this in campaign ads across the country to nationalize the election and sweep Republicans from power in Congress, state legislatures and Governor's mansions across the country relegating the GOP to minority status at the national level for a generation.
Today at his rally, the President of the United States said this about Iran. "Let them take out Los Angeles or San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."
No American city is a small price to pay.
No American life is.
Whatever he meant, a Commander in Chief should never talk this way about the people he swore to protect.
Our servicemembers sacrifice everything for us, and he just told the world their hometowns are expendable.
Protecting Americans should unite all of us. Every Republican who represents Southern California should say so tonight.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has been waging war against Christians in the DoD, designating the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to an "other than Christian" religion and forbidding chaplains to display their ranks while claiming that his illegal war and ensuing war crimes against innocent civilians are being fought with God's blessing.
Furthermore, he has fired all the three-star military service JAG commanders and eliminated the rules of engagement to make it easier for him to order the mass murder of enemy civilians at a time Trump keeps repeatedly threatening to commit nuclear genocide agsinst tens of millions of innocent Iranian civilians. At this point, Hegseth is doing the bidding of the Adversary and must be fired without delay in disgrace!
ICYMI, War Secretary Pete Hegseth:
"Today, at my direction, I'm establishing the Office of Religious Affairs. It will report straight to the top, a direct line to the secretary…as Psalm 33:12 extolls us, blessed is the nation in which God is the Lord.”
Remember, the fanatical religious radicals with dangerous are supposedly in Iran, not the United States.
The US military is being turned into a Christian nationalist militia to fighting pointless neocon Christian Zionist wars for Israel in the Middle East.
America First conservative champion Tucker Carlson is one of a few top conservative opinion makers who has been willing to publicly state that US and UK involvement in both world wars was in opposition to our national security interests.
It’s actually hilarious and sad to hear Tucker explain slowly and concisely to this buffoon that the British empire destroyed its wealth and its people fighting both world wars on behalf of allied countries that really didn’t matter….
In other words, it’s exactly what this lunatic is arguing for Briton’s to do on behalf of Ukraine once more…
If the White House and its MAGA sycophants believe that they can overthrow Cuba's Communist regime that has withstood 65 years of severe US economic sanctions without invading it they are absolutely clueless.
Also, anyone who thinks Venezuela has been liberated by the US when the truth is that it is still led by a Communist regime is living in an alternate reality of their own making that has no basis in fact. Venezuela remains a Communist Chinese and Russian ally against the US.
Do not miss the cultural and political earthquake that is happening in South America right now…
If Brazil flips away from the communists tonight and if the regime in Cuba is toppled you will be witnessing the complete and total remaking of South America as a nationalist, populist continent…and most importantly American allies.
Freedom is ascendant in the world’s most resource rich and dynamic hemisphere. None of this would be possible without USAID being defunded by @elonmusk and without @SecRubio’s visionary work at State Department and the @SecWar vaporizing narco terrorists and Trump’s unwavering strength.
Yes, elections matter. Yes, your vote matters. Yes, you’re getting what you voted for. Yes, the world is becoming a better place slowly, then all at once.
The reason Brazil's Communist unity coalition candidate is likely to lose his bid for re-election to a fourth term is because President Trump dismantled USAID which has been stealing elections for far left/socialist candidates around the world for decades. Helping liberate Latin America from socialist regimes is a big accomplishment though its possible Lula could still steal the Brazilian presidential election.
However, Trump's decision to prop up Venezuela's Communist regime with a $215 billion oil deal shows he sometimes allies with Communist dictators against US national security interests.
What you're watching is the first election in 6 years where Lula no longer has tens of millions of dollars of USAID operation money propping up him and his allies.
If the West cuts off Kaliningrad, what happens next?
"Every Russian with whom I have spoken has said that Russia would have credibly to threaten the use of nuclear weapons, followed by their actual use if NATO failed to back down," Anatol Lieven told me.

This is absolutely correct. It was Wilson's Folly in April 1917 that gave rise to all the horrors of the 20th century---the totalitarian evils of Stalin and Hitler and the Cold War which followed.
That's because US intervention transformed a bloody, fiscally bankrupting manpower consuming carnage in the trenches--- that would otherwise have left both sides to return home severely wounded economically, fiscally flattened and the war party on both sides discredited throughout Europe---into a Pyrrhic victory for the allies. In turn, that led to the insanity of the Versailles Treaty, German reparations, the carving up of German territory to the Danzig corridor in Poland, the Sudetenland in Czech and the French occupation of the Ruhr, and Hitler, German revanchism and the world war that inexorably followed.
And, oh, the US war declaration in April 1917 encouraged the raggedy Kerensky government to launch the 1917 summer offensive against Germany, which ended in failure, revolt of the military and the once in a million chance success of the Bolsheviks when they stormed the winter palace in October 1917, bringing Lenin's madness and Stalin's brutality into the world, as well.
Yes, Wilson's is truly one of the greatest villains in all of history! For crying out loud, Germany was zero threat to the USA by 1917: By then its entire Surface Navy was at the bottom of the North Sea or marooned in port after its cataclysmic loss in the 1916 battle of Jutland with the British Navy. So how were the krauts going to get to the shores of New Jersey---swim the Atlantic or crowd into mini-submarines, 25 at a time?
If you still have confidence in the politicians since all the unnecessary Forever Wars since then, riddle yourself this: If the elected politicians on the banks of the Potomac were stupid enough way back then to join a war that threatened only the pocket book of JP Morgan and not the American citizenry from sea-to-shinning-sea owing to the two great ocean moats, why would you possibly believe their war propaganda now?
For instance, the easily checked claim that Iran was weeks from a nuke on February 28. Yet and yet. According to the sober Tulsi Gabbard, every intelligence agency of the US Warfare State even then agreed that Iran had terminated work on weaponization of a nuke in 2003 and had not restarted it since. In short, in the annals of utterly, stunningly stupid American leaders, history is now in a race between Woodrow Wilson and Donald Trump. The former brought on 20th century totalitarianism, Cold War, Keynesian economics and the American Empire, while the latter appears to be cluelessly presiding over its final demise .
@RupertDarwall No, it was the Kaiser that agreed to that three days after the US declared war on Germany. If the US had not, the Kaiser would never have sent Lenin back to Russia and the Soviet Union would never have existed.
Very true. In fact, Germany would never have started World War Two, if the US had stayed out of World War One. It would have ended with a minor Allied victory over Germany in the West and a German victory over Russia in the East.
The Nazis would never have come to power in Germany and the Soviet Union would never have existed. All of our modern-day national security problems can be traced back to US military involvement in the world wars.
TO BE CLEAR: there'd not have been a WWII if the British (and, by extension, the US) had just stayed out of WWI.
It began as the "Third Balkan War" between Austro-Hungary and Serbia. At best, if the Anglo-American side had stayed out of it, the war would have become a Second Franco-Prussian War that would have resulted in the formation of a Germanic Europe (which is what we ultimately got with the EU in the 1990s).
Do not miss the cultural and political earthquake that is happening in South America right now…

This is an amazing turn of events for Latin Ameirca going from near total socialist control to near total conservative control if Balsanaro wins the October 30th presidential run off election! Sadly, Venezuela remains Communist.
🇦🇷🇧🇷 Argentina started the turn in 2023, this month Brazil is the one that decides if it sticks
Milei won first, and a map of the continent before him is a different color from the one people are drawing tonight.
If Flavio Bolsonaro takes the runoff, the biggest country on it joins that side.
Argentina votes again in 2027. That election can lock the shift, or it can start the swing back.
A map is a picture of one night., but the next one gets drawn in Buenos Aires.

Rees-Mogg actually lied through his teeth in that part of the interview: he claims that, in a treaty, America "guaranteed" Ukraine's territorial integrity, making it "inviolable", as a "quid pro quo" for giving up its nuclear weapons.
This is completely false.
The treaty he refers to is the so-called "1994 Budapest Memorandum", whose full text you can read here: https://t.co/pzxrXmtjw6
What the U.S. (alongside Russia and the UK, the other signatories) did commit to is "to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine," to refrain from the threat or use of force against it, and to refrain from economic coercion.
These are promises about each signatory's own behavior: the US promised not to violate Ukraine's borders ITSELF, it did NOT guarantee their inviolability against anyone else - contrary to what Rees-Mogg is saying.
Steven Pifer, one of the US negotiators, wrote about this in an article he titled "Budapest Memorandum Myths" for Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation (https://t.co/xmzUppnGTT). He writes that the claim that "the United States and Britain violated their Budapest commitments by not going to war against Russia on Ukraine’s behalf" - what Rees-Mogg is essentially saying - is "a myth."
In another article he wrote for CNN in 2014 (https://t.co/Jqfut0lbsq) the same Pifer explains that "U.S. negotiators — myself among them — discussed this point [i.e. the absence of security guarantees] in detail with Ukrainian counterparts so that there would be no misunderstanding."
The only thing the U.S. (and the other signatories) committed to do if Ukraine was attacked was "to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine" - and even that only in case of an aggression "in which nuclear weapons are used."
And the U.S. did go to the Security Council, but given that Russia is a permanent member of the same UN Security Council, it's of course completely useless.
Rees-Mogg is also lying on the other half of the supposed "quid pro quo": the fact that Ukraine supposedly agreed to get rid of "its nuclear weapons," emphasis on the "its."
The nuclear weapons on Ukrainian soil were never theirs to keep, and they never had operational control of the weapons: the launch authority was always in Moscow and, even if Ukraine had wanted to launch the weapons, they couldn't have because they didn't have the launch codes.
As Ramesh Thakur, former Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, explained in a 2014 article titled "the myth of Ukraine’s nuclear deterrent" (https://t.co/14sroLdyzs), the bombs on Ukraine's soil "were always Russian bombs that happened to be based in Ukraine" and "were not in fact Ukrainian, any more than NATO nuclear weapons stored on West European soil or U.S. bombs that used to be kept in South Korea belonged to the countries on whose territory they were located."
So there you have it, Rees-Mogg is your classic Eton-educated British politician: extremely posh and very well-spoken, supremely confident in everything he asserts, and... a shameless liar, peddling thoroughly debunked myths.
At this point, it has to be said that Latin America is LEADING the global renaissance of right-wing politics, with right-wing candidates winning every presidential election in the region since April 2025!
The winning streak began shortly after Trump dismantled USAID, an agency that had spent billions across Latin America on dubious 'development,' and governance programs.
The scale of the shift is incredible: Bolivia swung 49.8 points right, Costa Rica 35.6, Honduras 35.2, Chile 28.1, Ecuador 7.6, Colombia 4.0 and Peru 0.5.
Flávio Bolsonaro’s performance in Brazil is just one more example of a much wider regional trend that has accelerated since Trump returned to the White House.

Flavio Bolsanaro placed first in the Brazilian presidential election yesterday over corrupt 80 year old Communist front candidate President Lula da Silva who has been running for President since I lived in Brazilback in 1989. Lula stole the 2022 Brazilian presidential election copying the Democrats successful 2020 model. If the election is fair and free he is guaranteed to lose this one.
Close to 50% of the vote in Brazil: Flavio Bolsonaro contines maintaining a large 8.5 point lead over Lula.
No poll predicted any margin like this. Most predicted Lula ahead with a second round needed.
Definite under-counting by Brazil's major pollsters -- yet again -- of the support for Bolsonaro and his movement nationwide. Very strong night for his party.
Only question is whether Bolsonaro stays above 50% and wins without a run-off. My guess is a run-off is needed, but we'll see. Most of the non Bolsonaro/Lula voters are likely to migrate to the right, not the left. Bolsonaro would be a big favorite in a run-off:
WSJ: "The U.S. removed all its B-1 bombers from the U.K.’s RAF Fairford air base, a decision stemming from security concerns over suspected terror plots against the facility...'all U.S. bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have redeployed to their home stations in the United States,' the Pentagon said in a statement, adding that the bombers remained ready to deliver global strike capabilities from the continental U.S."

There are two competing hypotheses about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The first hypothesis is that the invasion was unprovoked, as Russia is another "Hitler" pursuing expansionism, and that the logical response of NATO is therefore to stop Russia and raise the costs. From this perspective, even diplomacy can be viewed as "appeasement." The second, competing hypothesis is that Russia responded to 30 years of NATO expansion, which it considers an existential threat, and thus considers itself to be fighting a defensive war. If the second hypothesis is correct, then NATO deepening its direct involvement and rejecting negotiations will only result in the destruction of Ukraine while taking further steps toward nuclear war.
George Beebe, the former Director of Russia Analysis at the CIA, argues that the second hypothesis is clearly correct: Russia sees this as a war for its survival and therefore cannot back down. One does not need to agree with the analysis of Beebe, but this should really be at the center of the debate in the West, as our survival depends on it. My great concern is that we are not even permitted to discuss or debate these two competing hypotheses, because the narrative must be protected and all dissent is smeared as repeating Russian propaganda. https://t.co/TPlLpZlAzg
