The news that Pakistani Navy may be planning submarine deployment in Bay of Bengal is alarming but not surprising.

After 1971 war, when the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi was sunk by Indian Navy off Vizag, the Pakistani Navy has avoided deployments in Bay of Bengal. Now with the induction of Chinese built Hangor Class submarines, which are AIP capable with greater endurance, the Pakistani Navy is once again toying with the idea of Bay of Bengal deployments. This will pose a significant threat to Indian Naval and Maritime assets in the East Coast.

Any such deployment from Pakistan will need logistics support from bases in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. India must take necessary diplomatic steps to prevent this happening. A few years back, the Chinese nuclear submarines were being provided logistic support in Colombo but that has thankfully stopped due to diplomatic steps taken by India.

This is a time for @MEAIndia and the Indian Navy to work in sync to contain this new threat .
