A little change around here.
I’ve decided to shift this X account away from travel for now and focus on my America’s Memory Lane project.
Expect plenty of nostalgia, old-school memories, classic technology, TV, traditions, and those little things we all remember.
Thanks for sticking with me as we take a trip down Memory Lane. Visit https://t.co/B9ED0bRBCX to see what it's all about. Thanks, Mike
America’s Memory Lane brings the everyday moments of America’s past back to life—one short video at a time.
From drive-in movies and TV dinners to roller rinks, shopping malls, and the unmistakable sound of the ice cream truck, we revisit the places, traditions, and small pleasures that shaped generations.
Created by Mike Gray, this nostalgia channel combines storytelling, surprising facts, and a little humor to spark memories and connect people through shared experiences. It’s a place to remember your childhood, discover how earlier generations lived, and enjoy stories worth passing along.
Follow America’s Memory Lane for a familiar smile and an occasional “I haven’t thought about that in years!”

You might forget why you walked into the kitchen—but you’ll recognize that ice cream truck jingle three streets away!
One little tune and suddenly you’re a kid again, scrambling for change and racing outside before the truck passes your house. The toughest decision of the day? Bomb Pop, ice cream sandwich, or something that turned your tongue blue.
Watch “The Ice Cream Truck Jingle Still Makes Grown-Ups Run Like Kids” on America’s Memory Lane—and enjoy a little summer that never melts.
Tell us your go-to ice cream truck treat in the comments!

Return to the early 1980s, when a single cable channel transformed American pop culture by making the music video the centerpiece of an entire generation's viewing ritual. This is a celebration of MTV's 45th anniversary, with a witty nod to how different the network is today. Visit https://t.co/B9ED0bRBCX to see more American Nostalgia.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: When the Whole Town Showed Up for Football!
Remember when Friday nights meant just one thing — HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL?
The stadium lights were shining, the marching band was playing, the cheerleaders were cheering, and it seemed like the whole town was packed into those bleachers!
It wasn't just about winning or losing. It was about hometown pride, seeing old friends, grabbing a hot dog at the concession stand, and cheering for the kids we all knew.
Those Friday nights weren't just football games. They were community traditions we'll never forget.

Remember when family game night meant everyone around the kitchen table, a deck of cards, a board game, a bowl of snacks, and absolutely no phones?
Well, family game night is making a surprising comeback in 2026.
Maybe people are craving a little less screen time, a little more conversation, and the kind of simple fun we used to take for granted.
Our newest America’s Memory Lane Short looks at why families are rediscovering this old-fashioned tradition.
What game did your family play the most: Monopoly, Yahtzee, Scrabble, cards, or something else?

Remember when a long-distance phone call was a big deal?
You didn’t just pick up the phone and chat for an hour. You watched the clock, kept the conversation short, and sometimes waited until nights or weekends when the rates were cheaper.
And if somebody said, “Call me collect,” you knew exactly what they meant.
Those long-distance calls may have cost a fortune, but hearing the voice of someone far away was worth every penny.

Thinking about taking a cruise? Choosing the right cruise line can make or break your vacation.
Big resort-style ships, traditional ocean cruises, European river cruises — they can offer completely different experiences. And the cheapest cruise isn't always the best value once you consider dining, entertainment, Wi-Fi, drinks, itinerary, and all those extras.
In my newest Traveling With Mike Gray video, I explain a simple way to narrow down the choices and find the cruise that fits your travel style, budget, and the kind of vacation you actually want.
Because there isn't one perfect cruise line for everybody.
There's a cruise that's right for you.

Remember when cooking didn’t come with a touchscreen, app, or voice assistant?
We learned how to measure by eye, check the oven without a timer on our phone, read a handwritten recipe card, sharpen a knife, peel potatoes by hand, and somehow know when dinner was ready just by the smell.
There was no YouTube tutorial waiting to rescue us. Most of what we knew came from watching Mom, Grandma, Dad, or someone else in the family who had been doing it for years.
Those simple kitchen skills became part of everyday life — and many of us still use them today.
What’s one old-school kitchen skill you learned growing up that you still use?

Remember when taking the perfect vacation photo actually took a little planning?
Before smartphones, there were no instant previews, no filters, and definitely no taking 27 pictures just to get one good one.
You loaded the film, lined everybody up, hoped nobody blinked, and clicked the shutter. Then came the hardest part — waiting days to get the pictures developed just to find out whether you got the shot.
Funny thing is, those imperfect vacation photos often became the ones we treasured most.

Remember when you only had **24 or 36 chances to get the picture right**?
Disposable cameras are making a comeback, and there’s something wonderfully nostalgic about it. No filters. No retakes. No checking the screen. You snapped the photo and waited to see how it turned out.
Why are people bringing them back now? Maybe we miss when photos felt a little more spontaneous and a lot less perfect.

Did you ever use disposable cameras, and do you still have any of those old photos tucked away somewhere?
Remember when watching a movie at home came with one final job — rewinding the VHS tape?
You'd finish the movie, press rewind, and listen to that familiar whirring sound while the tape slowly made its way back to the beginning. And if you rented movies, there was one rule everybody knew: Be Kind, Rewind!
It was a little ritual that disappeared with DVDs and streaming, but for anyone who grew up with a VCR, it's hard to forget.
Did your family always rewind the tape right away, or did you leave it for the next person?
