First Solar CEO Mark Widmar met with Utah @GovCox at the Energy Imperatives Summit in Washington, D.C. this week.
Utah is home to @RioTinto's Kennecott mine and the only tellurium processing facility in the United States. Tellurium is the foundation of First Solar’s cadmium telluride thin film technology. Kennecott is an important part of the domestic supply chain that keeps our modules genuinely American-made.
Governor Cox understands what’s at stake. So does Utah.

Our Alabama-made solar panels have backbones of steel. And not just any steel. We use Alabama-made steel. Our ENTIRE steel supply chain in the Yellowhammer State is located within 25 miles of our Lawrence County manufacturing plant. We’re not just buying American; we’re prioritizing local supply chains, supporting local jobs, and creating opportunities for our communities. It’s how we supported more than 1,800 jobs and over $134 million in labor income across the Alabama economy in 2025.

Solar grazing is helping farmers stay on the farms their families built — and pass it on to the next generation even stronger. American-made solar isn’t replacing agriculture. It’s giving American farmers a fighting chance.
“I think the solar grazing opportunity in America is going to transform and actually save the sheep industry,” said Chad Raines, a fourth-generation farmer in West Texas who credits solar grazing with bringing his family farm back from the brink of bankruptcy.

At the Tata Chemicals trona mine in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, miners work 1,500 feet underground to extract crystalline trona that’s refined into soda ash and used to form float glass for our American-made solar modules. They’re part of the coast-to-coast supply chain that creates jobs, supports regional businesses, and maximizes the economic value of our US operations.
Last year, First Solar added an estimated $13.8 billion in total economic output to the US economy, including indirect and induced effects. And that number is projected to grow to $18.4 billion by 2027.
We invest in American manufacturing and American supply chains to build a stronger foundation for America’s energy independence.

America is reindustrializing and there are few better examples than First Solar's Perrysburg, Ohio, manufacturing and R&D campus, which @RoKhanna, Ranking Member of @ChinaSelect, and @RepMarcyKaptur of Ohio visited on Saturday. What they saw: American workers building world-class technology, American families benefiting from good-paying jobs, and proof that American manufacturers, backed by American supply chains, can go toe-to-toe with China on a level playing field and compete to win. Their reactions say it all: 📷

U.S. Silica miners in Wayne County, Michigan, extract the high‑quality, ultra‑low‑iron silica sand that’s used to produce glass for First Solar modules. As our operations have expanded and our demand for silica sand has grown, U.S. Silica has added more good jobs at their facility.
When we grow, our partners grow. High quality, well-paying jobs created and supported across manufacturing, supply chains, and local communities are all part of the approximately $3.0 billion in annual labor income that our US operations supported in 2025 — and the approximately $4.0 billion we’re projected to support by 2027.
Strong jobs. Strong communities. Stronger America.

Solar enables communities to keep more dollars where they belong: at home.
In De Queen, Arkansas, First Solar modules help cut municipal energy costs — freeing up dollars for city parks, streets, and vital water infrastructure.
By using energy from a @ScenicHillSolar project equipped with First Solar modules to trim the city’s electricity costs, De Queen is able to put the savings into the essential services that make a small town stronger.
“Solar is making it possible for us to save money to be able to put back into the town to make it a better place to live.” — Jeff Brown, Mayor, De Queen, Arkansas

American manufacturing thrives when trade policy is fair and enforced.
On last week’s tour of our manufacturing campus in Perrysburg, Ohio, @USTradeRep Jamieson Greer and First Solar CEO Mark Widmar discussed why a level playing field matters — for American workers, American industry, and American prosperity.
“When you see a factory like this, it's not just a company,” said Ambassador Greer. “It's a worker. It's their family. It's community. And we want a trade policy that supports all of that.”
Strong trade policy helps ensure the companies driving American Reindustrialization can compete and grow. Watch some highlights from their conversation. 🎥

Today we were honored to welcome @USTradeRep Jamieson Greer to our manufacturing campus in Perrysburg, Ohio, joined by Senator @berniemoreno and Representative @boblatta.
Ambassador Greers visit is recognition of what’s possible when trade policy puts American interests first. By the midpoint of President Trump’s term, First Solar will have brought $1.5 billion in new US manufacturing capacity online across Louisiana and South Carolina — creating 1,400 good‑paying American manufacturing jobs.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to show Ambassador Greer firsthand how First Solar is building American supply chains, creating American jobs, and helping American communities prosper. We’re proud to manufacture in America — and committed to its future.

Since 1999, First Solar has called northwest Ohio home. Today, our Ohio footprint includes three solar manufacturing facilities and a state-of-the-art R&D center. As we’ve grown, we’ve continually invested in our Ohio operations and brought good jobs to the Buckeye State — and that investment has a meaningful impact.
According to estimates from a new economic impact study, our Ohio operations made significant contributions to the state economy in 2025:
✅ Supported ~9,360 direct, indirect, and induced jobs
✅ Generated ~$792 million in labor income
✅ Contributed ~$1.23 billion to the Ohio gross domestic product (GDP)
✅ Produced more than ~$4.25 billion in total economic output
We’re proud to anchor the heart of American solar in Ohio, strengthening US manufacturing and reinforcing America’s energy leadership.

Our US supply chain stretches from coast to coast — and even reaches underground. At the @RioTinto Kennecott mine in Salt Lake County, Utah, tellurium is recovered from copper mining tailings to be repurposed into our powerful photovoltaic semiconductor.
Supporting First Solar’s growth enables our suppliers to invest in their own capacity expansion with good-paying jobs. In fact, for every direct job First Solar supports it supports approximately six direct, indirect, and induced jobs nationwide.
At First Solar, we’re proud to manufacture critical energy technology with American workers using American materials from an American supply chain.
