Utah is home to @RioTinto's Kennecott mine and the only tellurium processing facility in the United States. Tellurium is the foundation of First Solar’s cadmium telluride thin film technology. Our Alabama-made solar panels have backbones of steel. And not just any steel. We use Alabama-made steel. Our ENTIRE steel supply chain in the Yellowhammer State is located within 25 miles of our Lawrence County manufacturing plant. At the Tata Chemicals trona mine in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, miners work 1,500 feet underground to extract crystalline trona that’s refined into soda ash and used to form float glass for our American-made solar modules. They’re part of the coast-to-coast supply chain that creates jobs, supports regional businesses, and maximizes the economic value of our US operations.

Last year, First Solar added an estimated $13.8 billion in total economic output to the US economy, including indirect and induced effects. And that number is projected to grow to $18.4 billion by 2027.

U.S. Silica miners in Wayne County, Michigan, extract the high‑quality, ultra‑low‑iron silica sand that’s used to produce glass for First Solar modules. As our operations have expanded and our demand for silica sand has grown, U.S. Silica has added more good jobs at their facility.

When we grow, our partners grow. High quality, well-paying jobs created and supported across manufacturing, supply chains, and local communities are all part of the approximately $3.0 billion in annual labor income that our US operations supported in 2025 — and the approximately $4.0 billion we’re projected to support by 2027.

Since 1999, First Solar has called northwest Ohio home. Today, our Ohio footprint includes three solar manufacturing facilities and a state-of-the-art R&D center. Our US supply chain stretches from coast to coast — and even reaches underground. At the @RioTinto Kennecott mine in Salt Lake County, Utah, tellurium is recovered from copper mining tailings to be repurposed into our powerful photovoltaic semiconductor.

Supporting First Solar’s growth enables our suppliers to invest in their own capacity expansion with good-paying jobs. In fact, for every direct job First Solar supports it supports approximately six direct, indirect, and induced jobs nationwide.
