Reminding us that God doesnt like ugly, even when you're spending a mint on an exclusive high end luxury resort, would be HBO's hit series 'The White Lotus'. Mike White and his producers provide us a beautiful visually stimulating backdrop where far more than just one's hair is being let down. We soon meet characters who despite their money, hold little in the way of equitable self worth. The series exposes the "carriage crowd", as well as, those who so, dutifully, cater to them in order to make a living wage. The "removing of the vestiture" device used throughout, where each and every character introduced, once exposed in the light, is flawed, can also lean a bit formulaic. 'White Lotus' at its best, dismisses the notion that those who have money do so because they are better than the rest of us. At its worst, I dunno, is it just another vehicle to distract us, to make us feel not so bad about our lot in life?
