Amini

The operating system for the Global South. Sovereign AI infrastructure, built local, owned local. 🌍

[Amini @AminiTech]

A new chapter for sovereign AI in the Central African Republic. 🇨🇫

@AminiTech and CCIS signed an MoU to advance mineral intelligence, public services, local data infrastructure and technical skills.

"Sovereign AI is not just about technology – it is about providing nations with the agency to control their memory, govern their resource wealth, and shape their digital future on their own terms." - @KateKallot.

Together with the Central African Republic, we are proving that the Global South can build, own, and benefit from its AI future.

What does it take for a country to own its AI future?
We’re taking you behind the scenes of Amini’s work in Barbados in a new episode of The Solutionaries, produced by TIME Studios with PMI. See how we’re building sovereign AI infrastructure so countries can own, process and govern their data locally.

We’re grateful to our team, @TIME Studios, @PMInstitute, and partners in Barbados for helping tell this story. Special thanks to this episode's Director @ebucklesjr, our Founder & CEO @KateKallot, Prime Minister @miaamormottley, Minister Jonathan Reid, ROAD Programme Manager Chereda Grannum, our Barbados Program Manager Chelceé Brathwaite, and an incredible team of Bajan builders.

Africa has the talent. It’s time to back it.

At #UnstoppableAfrica, our Founder & CEO @KateKallot called for investment in homegrown innovation, locally owned and processed African data, and compute that scales with demand.

Africa’s limited data centre capacity means much of its data is processed on foreign cloud infrastructure. @AminiTech Founder and CEO @KateKallot says stronger infrastructure is needed for Africa to capture more value from its expanding AI and digital economy.

What happens when African innovators build AI around the realities of the continent?

This month, we spotlight Kate Kallot (@KateKallot), Founder and CEO of Amini (@AminiTech), whose work sits at the intersection of AI, data and environmental intelligence.

Through Amini (@AminiTech), Kate (@KateKallot) is combining satellite data, machine learning and digital infrastructure to address challenges across climate, agriculture and sustainability.

Her journey reflects an important evolution in Africa's technology ecosystem.

African innovators are moving beyond adapting global technologies to local markets. Increasingly, they are building new infrastructure, data systems and AI solutions around African realities.

Before founding Amini (@AminiTech), Kate (@KateKallot) also contributed to NVIDIA's efforts to expand AI access and innovation across emerging markets.

At Data Science Nigeria (@dsn_ai_network) , we celebrate innovators whose work demonstrates that the future of AI will be shaped not only by technological capability, but by the problems we choose to solve with it.

Barbados now has a national digital twin built from its own cell tower infrastructure, and our team built it. 🇧🇧

We modeled 130,248 buildings, 100 antennas and 17,966 water mains across six frequency bands to explore how existing telecom infrastructure can help countries better understand their physical environment and climate risk.

No GPU. No cloud dependency. Designed to run locally.

The research and reproduction code are now open, alongside the story behind the work led by Zoë Cayetano and team

This year’s theme, “Ìmọ̀ Wa, Our Shared Knowledge,” captured that perfectly.

The knowledge already exists. The opportunity is to build the infrastructure that allows countries and communities to use it, govern it and create value from it.

Proud to be building alongside this community. 🌍

[Amini @AminiTech]

1,000+ African AI researchers, engineers and builders, together in Lagos to shape one shared AI future. 🌍

At this year’s @DeepIndaba, our team joined the community to share what we’re learning as we build sovereign AI infrastructure across Africa and the Global South. 🧵

[Amini @AminiTech]

@DeepIndaba 🧵5/6

We’re already seeing what this can look like in practice.

From environmental intelligence built using satellite and local data to sovereign AI deployments that help governments digitise, search and use their own institutional knowledge, the infrastructure layer matters.

[Amini @AminiTech]

@DeepIndaba 🧵4/6

Our Founder & CEO @KateKallot also took the stage to share a belief at the heart of our work:

Africa does not lack knowledge, data or talent. What is still missing in many places is the infrastructure needed to activate them at scale and on local terms.

[Amini @AminiTech]

🧵3/6

It means building across the full stack, from digitising overlooked records and creating trusted data foundations to local compute and applications that make that knowledge useful.

The goal is to move from data that exists, but remains difficult to use, to intelligence that can serve institutions and communities.

[Amini @AminiTech]

@DeepIndaba 🧵2/6

For us, sovereign AI starts with a fundamental question:

How do countries turn their own data, knowledge and context into intelligence while retaining control over the infrastructure that makes it possible?

That means thinking beyond AI models alone.

[Kate Kallot @KateKallot]

Global partnerships matter. Local ownership matters more.

“A common sovereignty story … African, European, Taiwanese.” Thank you @EmmanuelMacron for naming what this partnership stands for.

Together with Foxconn and Bull, we are building modular AI data centres designed for African realities, expanding local compute capacity and strengthening sovereign AI infrastructure.

[Skoll Foundation @SkollFoundation]

If AI is to serve us all, it must be built by us all.

That’s the message that @KateKallot, Founder and CEO of @AminiTech, brought to the #SkollWF. In her work building data infrastructure across Africa and the Global South, Kallot reminds us that the promise of AI depends on inclusive participation in its development. Yet millions of people are excluded not only from building AI systems, but even from contributing their cultures and conversations to train the models.

Watch the rest of Kallot’s talk to learn how she’s going beyond inclusivity to achieve true data sovereignty for countries and leaders worldwide—leveraging local talent to ensure the AI revolution benefits everyone, no matter where they call home: https://t.co/Zmp3ST6TYd
